Question:Can multiple motors be used with a single inverter?
Answer:Yes.
The following are thing to watch for when using multiple motors on one drive:
  • Make sure that the inverter's rated nameplate current is greater than or equal to the sum of the motor rated currents times 1.1 (during continuous operation).
  • Each motor should be protected by it own overload relay. This is because multiple motors appear as one load to the AC drive as they are connected to the same drive output. terminals. The Ac drive cannot distinguish the individual load on each motor.
  • Motors in the circuit cannot use an encoder for closed loop operation. The drive has only one input for encoder feedback.
  • The drive must be operated in V/f motor control mode.
  • The drive should be stopped when opening or closing output motor contactors. A drive fault may occur if output contactors are opened under load.
The above are some general guidelines, other precautions not listed here may also apply.
