FAQ# MNEN-5CJMSS Published: 05/13/2002

Question:What is the air gap requirement for Yaskawa's Linear Motors?
Answer:The air gap between the Linear Motor Coil and the Magnet track is as follows:

SGLGW40 & SGLGW60 Coreless Series: 0.8 mm +/- 0.3 mm
SGLFW Iron Core Series: 0.8 mm +/- 0.3 mm
SGLTW20 & SGLTW35 Iron Core Series 0.8 mm +/- 0.3 mm
SGLTW40 & SGLTW80 Iron Core Series 1.2 mm +/- 0.3 mm.

The air gap or the air gap tolerance is a fixed value and is solely the function of the mechanical structure i.e. bearings and frame (not a function of the attraction force between the magnet track and the motor coil). The attaction force will change if the air gap is more or less than that which is optimum.
