30 - 200 Horsepower Sinusoidal Regenerative Converter
The DC5 is one of two line-regeneration products offered by Yaskawa. The DC5 is a high performance solution designed to provide clean power back to the incoming line. The DC5 is wired in series between the drive and the incoming line and therefore must have an equal or larger current rating than the drive. The DC5 handles both motoring and regenerative power from the drive. The output of the DC5 is a PWM sinusoidal waveform with very low harmonic distortion (approximately 5% THD) and is designed to meet IEEE-519 requirements. The DC5 requires several external components that must be integrated for proper operation. Consult with Yaskawa Application Engineering for assistance with this product.
The DC5 is ideal for applications that have large overhauling loads or make frequent stops such as elevators, centrifuges, test stands, and winders. This can result in significantly reduced operation costs of machinery by “re-cycling” the excess power back to the power grid. The DC5 package is generally smaller than a comparable braking resistor and does not have the heat loss and mounting location problems associated with a braking resistor.
For reference, our other product is the RC5. The RC5 is a lower cost line-regeneration solution with a six-step waveform that does not provide IEEE-519 compliant power.
