The F7 drive was the Industrial Workhorse of adjustable frequency drives. It was intended to handle every conventional drive application found in the typical industrial manufacturing plant from simple variable torque pumping to sophisticated networked material handling.

The F7 / Configured package provided an F7 drive in a NEMA Type 12 or NEMA 12 FVFF enclosure, with space for factory-mounted and wired options, such as reactors, filters, circuit breakers, fuses, network communications and I/O cards, etc.

The software is free of charge from the Yaskawa website. A Communication cable to connect between the PC and the drive is required. The cable part number is UWR00468-2. What is the ambient temperature derating (L8-12 setting)? Posted Date: 01/22/2007 Answer: The output current capacity and the overload capabilities of the inverter depend on the ambient temperature. The higher the ambient temperature the lower is the maximum output current because the heat dissipation becomes more difficult. The overload protection function is active only when the current is above the maximum continuous output current level (112% of inverter rated current). At ambient temperatures higher than 45°C (40°C for IP20) this level will be lowered. The ambient temperature can be set in parameter L8-12. The setting range is 45°C to 60°C. Because the inverter has no IP00/20 detection the set value for L8-12 must be 5° higher than the real ambient temperature at IP20 units. In addition to their past rotational auto-tunings, both the F7 and G7 have been set up to allow for auto-tuning at stop. Auto-tuning is possible with the load attached. The inverters are designed to allow for simple auto-tuning when working with only phase-to-phase resistance. Primary resistance auto-tuning allows the drive to compensate for long lead lengths. Does installation of an AC Drive near a large capacitor bank (power-factor correction) require special consideration? Posted Date: 10/27/2005 Answer: Yes. Capacitors are put across the AC power line to correct for lagging power factor due to inductive loads. Motors, relay coils, transformers, etc. are inductive loads. Many times capacitors are switched on and off the line as demand changes. Unfortunately, this switching results in large voltage spikes on the power line which can damage the drives rectifier circuit. To prevent damage use a 5% line reactor on the drive's input. If overvoltage faults are indicated, add dynamic braking -- this will clamp the DC bus.
