On the GPD 515/G5, If Terminal 1 to 11 are closed, but the GPD515/G5 inverter still does not run. What is wrong? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: There are 3 possible reasons that the drive is not running: 1. The drive is receiving no speed reference. If this is the case, the Run light will be on, and the Stop light will be flashing. 2. The inverter is not using the input terminals for the 'Run' command. Set Parameter 'b1-02' to '1: Terminal'. 3. The inverter is being placed into the 'drive' mode with the run command at Terminal '1' already engaged? Remove that contact closure and then reapply it. On the GPD 515/G5, can the 15V at pin-15 power a proximity sensor? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: Maybe. The 15V at pin-15 is referenced to board common (pin-17) and rated to source 20mA max. Unless the output of the proximity sensor is isolated, using the sensors output to sink one of the logic inputs would necessitate connecting logic common (pin-11) to board common (pin-17). This could cause potential GROUND LOOP problems with other inputs. Is there a way to perform an initialization without losing the parameter settings? Posted Date: 11/28/2005 Answer: Yes. To do this, a "User Initialization" will have to be performed. When the Access Level ( A 1 - 0 1 ) is set to "Advanced", the "Function A2 User Constants" option will appear in the top level of the menu. The parameters desired for custom access are entered into A2-XX parameters. After any of the A2 parameters have been programmed, the "User Program" option appears in the choice of Access Levels. Choosing this option will allow only those parameters programmed in A2-XX to be accessed in "Programming". Up to 32 parameters may be programmed. To add parameters to or delete parameters from A2-XX list , change the Access Level back to Advanced. Then, the current programming must be set to default. This can be done by setting parameter o2-03 to '1: Set default'. Once this is done, there will be a new selection available in parameter A1-03. In this parameter, '1110: User initialize' will become available. Selecting '1110: User initialize' in parameter A1-03 will initialize the drive to user default settings. Is there a way to clear the fault history? Posted Date: 06/08/2007 Answer: Yes. Performing an initialization will clear the fault history. Whenever the fault relay trips (drive shutdown), the fault that caused the trip (except for parameter setting errors) are entered into non-volatile RAM. The drive retains the last four faults and the operating conditions when the last fault occurred. (NOTE: Time is in operating hours.) These faults can only be displayed when the drive is in the Drive mode (DRIVE light is on). The drive can be stopped or running when displaying these faults. In the Initialize Group, set the desired access level in A1-01. Next, go to A1-04. From this location, press the "reset" key, and without releasing, press the menu key. This is parameter A1-05 and is a "hidden" parameter which it not even listed in the technical manual. The display should now read "Select Password". Enter the desired password. From this point forward, A1-01 cannot be changed unless A1-04 = A1-05. 2. Set one of the digital inputs (H1-01 through H1-06) to "Program lockout (1B)". A key-switch can then be added between that terminal and the common (term. 11), or, to make it less obvious, authorized personnel could simply use a jumper across those two terminals when a programming change needs to be made. Posted Date: 06/08/2007 Answer: Yes, most all Yaskawa drives posses parameter security that helps prevent inadvertent setting changes. The instruction manuals for the drive explain this function in more detail. Use the following instructions to obtain write access for the drives described below: For the V7 drive: Parameter n001 controls the access to all of the parameters. A setting of "0" allows no parameters to be changed, while settings of "4" or '5' allow all parameters to be changed. Settings "1" through "3" are increments of the level of access allowed. For the P5 or PC5 or GPD506 drive: Parameter n001 controls the access to all of the parameters. A setting of "0" allows no parameters to be changed, while settings of "3" allows all parameters to be changed. Settings "1" and "2" are increments of the level of access allowed. Does installation of an AC Drive near a large capacitor bank (power-factor correction) require special consideration? Posted Date: 10/27/2005 Answer: Yes. Capacitors are put across the AC power line to correct for lagging power factor due to inductive loads. Motors, relay coils, transformers, etc. are inductive loads. Many times capacitors are switched on and off the line as demand changes. Unfortunately, this switching results in large voltage spikes on the power line which can damage the drives rectifier circuit. To prevent damage use a 5% line reactor on the drive's input. If overvoltage faults are indicated, add dynamic braking -- this will clamp the DC bus.
