The V7 was a low cost, high performance compact drive, operable in V/f or Open Loop Vector mode. In addition to good speed regulation, open loop vector control also provided higher torque at lower speeds. The V7 was ideally suited for applications such as conveyors, grinders, centrifuges, pumps, fans,blowers, machine tools, packaging, food processing, and commercial laundry.

The V7 / Configured package provided a V7 in a NEMA 1 or NEMA type12 enclosure, with space for several commonly used options, such as reactors, input filters, circuit breakers, etc.

The V7 Drive is a Legacy product and is no longer promoted in the Americas. Earlier versions of this product were named GPD 315/V7, GPD 315 or VS Mini V7.

Can the speed reference to a V7 Drive be switched 'on the fly' between run and jog? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: Yes. As long as the run command is energized, toggling the Jog input will toggle the speed. Note that the Jog speed need not necessarily be low. Can the PID in the V7 Drive be used for positioning? Posted Date: 10/09/2014 Answer: No. The output of the PID regulator in the V7 Drive is a unidirectional frequency (speed) command. Bidirectional speed control is necessary to do positioning. The drive must be able to approach the target by using bi-directional speed control. A separate position loop controller may be used to provide the V7 with a bi-polar speed reference/error signal that can allow the V7 to zero in on position. The kit contains a plastic housing to hold the V7 operator, a cable and a plastic cover to fill the hole on the drive where the operator had been. Can a negative speed reference be used to command the drive to reverse direction when using the Profibus option? Can a Dynamic Braking resistor be installed on a J7 Drive? Posted Date: 10/11/2004 Answer: The J7 Drive does not have an internal braking transistor therefore that option can not be installed. An separate braking module is be needed. It may be more cost effective to use a V7 Drive instead for that application.
