Is it possible to achieve more consistent I/O updates for high speed applications with the Mechatrolink Phoenix Bus Coupler and the MP2000 series products? Posted Date: 11/30/2010 Answer: There may be a delay in the in IO response when using the Phoenix bus coupler over the Mechatrolink. This could be caused by a large amount of IO being used and the time it takes for the Mechatrolink to update the IO status. As a result we recommend a phased approach to improve the IO responsiveness with the following steps: 1. I/O connected to the main body of the coupler will be faster than the additional slice I/O because of the additional time required by the backplane for processing of the remote I/O. Use main body I/O where possible for the most critical I/O. 2. Update the module's update rate to sync with the High speed scan program being used. If using an MP2000iec controller, be sure the I/O driver is set to update at an appropriate interval (synchronize with a task that corresponds to the desired I/O refresh rate.) 3. Move the critical I/O to an LIO card on the MP2000 series controller. 4. Move the critical output to the COIN connection on the LIO or CNTR-01 card. This is also referred to as the High Speed Output function on MP2000iec controllers. This is a hardware level function that can operate the output within 13 uSec of the encoder on the LIO card meeting an exact position value. If the Home switch (HOME) and inputs (EXT1, EXT2, EXT3) to the Sigma III Mechatrolink version Servopack are not used, and are not masked, can they be used as general purpose MP2000 inputs instead? Posted Date: 07/25/2005 Answer: Yes. These inputs are addressed at Monitor Word #46 (IW802E) in an SVB on the MP2000 product. Bits 2, 6, 7, and 8, for the HOME, EXT1, EXT2, EXT3 respectively. To address as bits in a ladder program for axis 1, the address are IB802E2, IB802E6, IB802E7, IB802E8 for HOME, EXT1, EXT2, EXT3 respectively. The state of over-travel inputs can also be monitored, if they are enabled. They are bits 0 and 1 of the input register above. To address as bits in a ladder program for an axis 1 servo the address are IB802E0 and IB802E1 for P-OT and N-OT respectively. How is the memory stored in an MP-2000 series controller? Posted Date: 06/25/2013 Answer: The MP-2000 controllers have two basic memory storage areas. They are SRAM (battery-backed) and FLASH. How is automatic (self) configuration performed on an MP-2300? Posted Date: 12/19/2006 Answer: Self-configuration can be executed by either turning the power ON with the CNFG and INIT switches ON, or it can be executed from MotionWorks (MPE720). The procedure for executing self-configuration using the CNFG and INIT switches is shown below. The allocated I/O register numbers may change when self-configuration is executed, if modules are not in the same slot as originally configured. Self-configuration eliminates the need to make settings for Module definitions, making it possible to perform startup work easily and quickly for the MP2300 system. Optional Modules are recognized and definition files are generated automatically. Input registers and output registers are automatically allocated to I/O. Allocation is performed in ascending order from the Module with the lowest option slot number. The lowest slot number is nearest the CPU (The CPU is considered slot #0). For networks, such as Mechatrolink and DeviceNet, information about the station configuration is collected and definition files are generated automatically.
