What does the “E2005 the field offset exceeds the limit” compile error mean? Posted Date: 01/30/2020 Answer: This error typically occurs when large User Defined Datatypes are declared. It means that at least one variable declaration exceeded the limit for Global Variables or a POU. MotionWorks IEC will specify which variable caused it. The limit is 4MB for Global Variables and 4MB each POU Variable Worksheet. This limit does not mean that 4MB is the maximum size for all variable space however. The limit refers to the reference point (head address) where the variable is located. Any variables declared beyond the 4MB limit will cause this error. Placing the largest structure as the last variable declaration in the variable list typically permits the project to be complied without error. Posted Date: 03/12/2014 Answer: This error message typically appears if there is a variable connected to a VAR_IN_OUT with a datatype that differs from the required datatype of the function block. In a similar fashion, this error can also occur when a variable is used as a VAR_IN_OUT for a function block inside a user created function block, but isn't declared as a VAR_IN_OUT to the user created function block. Check the datatype definition for each function block recently added to the project by right clicking on it to view the object properties. What are the functions of INIT, CNFG and SUP/MNT switches on the MPiec controllers? Posted Date: 02/15/2017 Answer: The INIT switch bypasses the loading of any saved configuration. Use this switch if there are suspected configuration issues causing alarms on the controller that may prevent you from connecting to the MPiec controller. If the INIT switch is ON and the CNFG switch is OFF, the controller will show no axes connected. The CNFG switch automatically configures the MPiec controller with the supported devices attached to the Mechatrolink network and I/O cards. When this switch is ON the MPiec controller can control any supported devices attached regardless if they are in a saved configuration or not. Yaskawa recommends leaving this switch on. The SUP/MNT switch puts the MPiec controller in supervisor mode for firmware upgrades. When this switch is ON, the controller will not “control” anything (The PLC will not run.) What are the differences between MECHATROLINK-II and MECHATROLINK-III? Posted Date: 11/05/2013 Answer: There are many differences including speed, slave count, and behavior. These differences arise because the physical layer differs and are summarized in the table attached to this document (.PDF file). These differences mean that while MECHATROLINK-III performs better, the motion programmer must be more thoughtful in choosing a network topology and configuring the network. With MECHATROLINK-III, the time it takes for a master to send a packet to a slave and receive the slave's reply is called the response time, and it depends on the number of intermediate slave nodes, the packet size and the sum of the cable lengths. The sum of the response times for each slave and the number of retries configured determines the minimum communication cycle. Consequently, for the same number of nodes, a star topology will have a lower minimum communication cycle than a line topology. The network configuration for MECHATROLINK-III contains the expected response times for each slave node, the number of retries and the communication cycle. As a result, the network configuration depends on how the slave nodes are physically connected. Changing the physical connection without updating the configuration may cause the controller to be unable to communicate with a slave node. The motion programmer can increase the expected response times to allow the system to work with different topologies, but doing so may result in a slower communication cycle. What are some tips for operating a single load with multiple servo motors? Posted Date: 03/12/2014 Answer: With Yaskawa MP Controllers, position mode is quite effective as Mechatrolink is a high-speed deterministic network enabling all of the servopacks process information at the same time (synchronized). Declare (arbitrarily) one axis a master and the other(s) as a slave(s). 1. Configuration To lessen torque discrepancy (fighting) among the axes, it is often useful to set PN10C = 0 in the slave(s). This sets the ServoPack to operate the velocity loop in proportional (P) only mode. It will keep the speed loop integrator in the ServoPack from building up and adding torque disturbance. 2. Alignment Hold the master axis stationary. Limit the torque in the slave axis to something reasonable (that will not damage the mechanism). Slowly (referencing or homing speed) move the slave axis reverse, when torque limit is reached, record the slaves actual position. Move the slave axis forward, when torque limit is reached, record slaves actual position. Move the slave to the mid-point of those two positions, and then enable 1:1 gearing to the master. Typically this is completed as a referencing routine in the motion/machine controller, such as Yaskawa MP controller. 3. Gains When tuning it is important to change the gains on all shared axes at the same time. If using Model Following Control (MFC) tuning methodology, it is important that these ServoPack parameters are the same for all axes. Theses include PN140 - PN14F. Sometimes my machine power-up position is incorrect even though I have an absolute encoder on the motor. What is causing this issue? Posted Date: 05/19/2015 Answer: The absolute encoder rollover value must be properly calculated and stored in servopack parameter Pn205. This parameter is the Multi-Turn Limit Setting. It is necessary to set this value properly for rotary applications which move infinitely in one direction and utilize an absolute encoder. Example applications include indexing tables, spindles, turrets, winders, and conveyors. Pn205 allows the absolute encoder to synchronize itself with the mechanical load's position. The value must be chosen so that the number of turns tracked by the absolute encoder of the motor is an integer multiple of the desired mechanical cycle of the mechanism. When Pn205 is set incorrectly, the mechanism's home position may not be correct after a power cycle. Please see the attached documents that illustrate how to calculate Pn205 with three example applications. IMPORTANT NOTE: After making a change to Pn205 and cycling the power, the drive will display alarm A.CC0 (Multi-turn Limit Disagreement Error). This alarm is fixed by executing the "Multiturn Reset" function found in the web server (section "Machine Operations", tab "Drive Pn"). After executing this function, cycle power again to clear the alarm. Select the "Drive Parameters" page. 3. Under "User Parameters" select "Write" for the replaced servopack(s). The parameters are saved into the replaced Servopack. 4. Cycle power on the system. 5. After the system reboots, under "User Parameters," press Verify to confirm that there is no unexpected mismatch. Is there a solution for MotionWorks IEC v2.x to enable the Hardware Configuration to recognize an unknown SGDV model number? Posted Date: 12/20/2017 Answer: With MotionWorks IEC v2.x, it may have been necessary to include a file (as described below) to ensure that all SGDV drives were read correctly. In general, this problem has been fixed and should no be necessary when using newer version of MothinWorks IEC v3.x. The following solution is applicable for MotionWorks IEC 2.x and SGDV drive ONLY. MotionWorks IEC 3.0 and later, as well as Sigma-7 drive compatiblity, are NOT supported using this method. Please contact Yaskawa Technical Support Group in these situations. If a file named "Compatibleparts.XML" is added to the following MotionWorks IEC working directory, the Hardware Configuration will treat an unknown part number as a part number in its database. According to IEC 61131-3 identifier are strings of letters or digits and underscores which must begin with a letter or an underscore. The use of multiple leading or embedded underscores is not allowed. The following situation will also cause the Illegal Identifier message: If making a STRING literal, such as STRING#"MC=TRUE" - do not use double quotes around the text. Single quotes must be used. Posted Date: 10/28/2013 Answer: Yes, The following describes the capabilities of the 218IF-Y1 card: Q1: Is web server access possible via 218IF-Y1? A1: Yes, from a PC on the same network, simply go to the IP address of the 218IF-Y1 card. Q2: Are Modbus/TCP and Ethernet/IP protocols supported by the 218IF-Y1? A2: Yes, all protocols available on the main Ethernet port are possible on the 218IF-Y1 card. Other devices acting as a Modbus master or Ethernet/IP scanner can communicate to any ethernet port on the MPiec Series Controller and the MP will respond. Q3: How can IO configure the 218IF-Y1 card to communication Modbus or Ethernet/IP? I don't see a screen supporting this in the Hardware Configuration. A3: The communication protocols are not linked to a specific ethernet port. Communications are automatically routed to the correct ethernet port based on the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. For example, assume the MPiec controller has the following IP address configuration: Default gateway = 192.168.1.253 Main port = 192.168.1.1 with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 218IF-Y1 port = 192.168.2.1 with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 If the Hardware configuration includes a Modbus slave at 192.168.2.10, the MPiec controller will automatically route the communications to that device from the 218IF-Y1 card. This is because they have the same address when filtered by the subnet mask. (192.168.2) If the Hardware Configuration includes a modbus slave at 192.168.207.30, the controller will send the communications to the Default Gateway, which in the example given above is the main port.
