What would cause an "06" communications error code in an HMI when talking to one or more NS600(s)? Posted Date: 11/21/2001 Answer: Error code 06 in the HMI indicates a Response Error. It could be caused by unmatched settings, noise, or response out of range. It is important to insure all the communications parameters are properly fixed. Please verify the following: 1) The HMI is expecting an "OK" response from every command sent to the NS600. This is possible by setting Pn802 = 1. 2) The HMI does not want an echo from the NS600 on characters sent. This can be set by Pn800 to 0 or 5. Most common example: If using single or muti-drop 4 wire RS422, no echo is possible by setting Pn800 = 0. (note that the delimiter expected at the HMI is a CRLF). 3) Baud rate settings must match in HMI and NS600. Most common example: if using 19.2kbaud, then setting of Pn801 = 1. 4) Address switch settings must be fixed properly. NS600 address swich must match the address reference per data field in HMI. 5) Verify wiring diagram vs actual wiring (see alternate FAQ). Terminator must be placed in the last physical node (100ohm). Maximum distance is 3m (RS232C) and 50m (RS422/485). 6) Transmission protocol format must be matched at: 1 start bit, 7 databit (ASCII), 1 parity bit (even), 1 stop bit, no XON/XOFF control, half duplex. 7) System Field Ground must be installed properly. Each SGDH must have a properly sized ground wire ran to a single point in the control cabinet. HMI should use the ground spade with a 14-16 AWG wire running to a single point in the control cabinet (star ground configuration). Shielding of HMI-NS600 cable should be terminated at the HMI side. Check for ground loops in the system. Note: Pn numbers can be set in the NS600 using IndexWorks Software. What is the difference between JEPMC-W6060 and JZSP-CKI01 cables? Posted Date: 06/25/2014 Answer: Both cables are 50 pin with 3M connectors at one end and pigtails at the other end, and are interchangable with each other. JEPMC-W6060-xx cable: 1. This cable is typically selected when specifying MP920 amd MP2x00 System Components, when connecting external I/O to a module. (SVA-01 CN5, DO-01/DI-01/PO-01/CNTR-01 CN1 & CN2 / LIO-05 and LIO-05) 2. "xx" indicates the cable length (05=0.5m, 10=1.0m, 30=3.0m) 3. The wire color code for the cable is attached below (JEPMC-W6060-xx Pinout and Color Code .pdf) 4. What I/O cable options exist for the NS600? Posted Date: 07/18/2014 Answer: There are four options. 1) Use two pigtail (flying lead) cables: SGDH (1CN): JZSP-CKI01-XX(A) NS600 (4CN): CKI-NS600-XX Note: XX is cable length in meters: Lengths available are 01, 02, or 03 meters. 2) Use two terminal blocks with connector cable assembly: SGDH (1CN): JUSP-TA50P NS600 (4CN): JUSP-TA36P Cable length for each of the above units are 0.5 meters. The terminal blocks make wiring to the host controller quick and easy. 3) Create cables for both units using two separate connector kits: SGDH (1CN): JZSP-CKI9 NS600 (4CN): DP9420007 4) Use cable assembly with D-SUB output for a single, 3rd party I/O break board. The part number for this option is CKI-NS600D-XX. This cable is configured as a "Y" or "two headed" cable. One leg of the "Y" plugs into the amp's 1CN and the other into the 4CN on the N600. The two cables combine and terminate on the other end into a single 50 pin D-SUB connector. All 50 pins of the D-SUB are used when combining the I/O (many conductors are not used when the traditional two cable route is chosen). This D-SUB connector allows the customer to specify a 3rd party terminal block of their choice while cutting wiring time in half vs. the pigtail arrangement. For customers who have access to terminal blocks at a volume discount, this option offers substantial cost savings over the JUSP-TA50P and JUSP-TA36P. Specify 500 mm, 1m, 2m, or 3m length. What causes an E19A alarm on the NS600 indexer and how is the error corrected? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: The E19A alarm is a Program Check-Sum Alarm. E19A is the response when the controller is queried with the ALM command or while monitoring with IndexWorks, but the SGDH display will read A.EF. The alarm is detected only when the control power is turned ON or when the RES command is executed. It indicates that there was an error in the storage of the program table to flash memory. The E19A alarm is usually occurs when the control power is turned OFF while saving the program table (with a PGMSTORE command) or initializing the program table (with a PGMINIT command). This error can be resolved by reinitializing the program table with a PGMINIT command or by executing function Pn806. If this method does not work, download all table parameters to make sure that the memory table is full of valid data. What are the advantages of "Serial Command Method" when using an NS600 indexer? Posted Date: 02/20/2003 Answer: If the application requires various index moves that are not pre-determined and consequently cannot be configured as a preset index table, then by using the 'Serial Command Method', immediate interpretation of commands can be achieved. This method can be used in conjunction with many PLCs (often without special modules) and all industrial computers. The IndexWorks software offers a built-in terminal to be used for this method of control. HyperTerminal, a standard utility of the Windows operating system, may also be utilized to establish communications and programming. This method also allows for preset table execution, so in applications where certain moves can be configured as pre-determined, this method can execute the preset table moves as well as diverting to different undetermined moves based on the machines modes. This method also supports separate Acceleration and Deceleration for every index move as a temporary parameter. If used as a Serial Network, up to 16 addressable stations can be configured. The baud rate is settable up to 38.4K, and it supports standard RS232C, RS422 & RS485. Many new computers do not offer serial communication ports. How is communication possible to Yaskawa products if no serial port is available? Posted Date: 06/25/2013 Answer: Currently most Yaskawa products require serial communication; some do offer Ethernet as an alternative. However, if neither method of communication is available, most computers offer USB (Universal Serial Bus). A USB to serial adaptor device may be used to establish communication. These adaptors are widely available on the Internet and at electronics stores. All current Yaskawa software will work with a USB to serial port adaptor (provided the operating system supports it). Is there an alternative explanation of the term "User Units" pertaining to Yaskawa's electronic gearing built into the Servopacks and JUSP-NSxxx option board products? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: User units are a description of the resultant position units after electronic gearing parameters are adjusted. This is a feature used when a Yaskawa Servopack is in position mode. A Servopack may be in position mode under two circumstances: accepting pulses from a stepper motor indexer or when an application module such as an NS600, NS300 or NS500 is attached. Electronic gearing is expressed as a ratio. The result is that the position can be pulsed or commanded in logical user units, not just motor-encoder counts. Positioning in user units allows the application programmer to set position targets in realistic units rather than encoder counts. The Ratio is expressed as B/A, where B and A are integers. 'B' is the number of Quadrature [x4] encoder counts the motor will move for a given 'A' number of commanded user units. If B=300 and A=20, then for every 20 user units sent to the Servopack via pulses or a position command issued from an option card, the servomotor will move 300 encoder counts. Is there an Alarm Reset function in the JUSP-NS600? Posted Date: 06/25/2013 Answer: To reset an alarm, the following options are available: 1.) With the serial command ARES via CN6. 2.) Form an external circuit so the servo amplifier turns OFF when an alarm occurs. Alarms are reset automatically when the control power supply is turned OFF. 3.) Alarms can also be reset using a digital operator via CN7. 4.) Built-in panel display (SGDH alarms only). To reset an alarm using one of the latter two methods, press the up and down buttons simultaneously. Note 1: Encoder alarms cannot always be reset by digital operator or by serial command. In these cases, cycle the control power OFF and ON to reset the alarm. Note 2: When an alarm occurs, always eliminate the cause before resetting the alarm. Is it possible for outputs of an NS600 indexer to activate inputs of another NS600 indexer unit? Posted Date: 10/17/2002 Answer: Yes. In a multi axis system, this method of I/O manipulation is very useful. For instance in a 2 axis system, suppose the first axis has to make a move and get to a particular position before the second axis starts its motion. Once the first axis is in position, set an output to directly signal the secondary axis to start motion. When the second axis reaches its target position, it could set an output to tell the first axis the move is complete. The same concept can be applied for a series of index moves and stops. The Zone outputs are also very useful if mechanical interference between axes exists in certain positions. Set the Zone output after the first axis is out of the interference zone. Another axis could use this as an input to begin motion. The same concept can be applied to multiple mechanisms working in conjunction with each other. Is a driver available for the Exor HMI to talk to the JUSP-NS600 Sigma II Indexer application module? Posted Date: 02/22/2005 Answer: Yes. An Exor HMI driver for the JUSP-NS600 Sigma II Indexer application module has been developed and released. The latest driver, UPLC156.DLL, is attached below and is Version 3.02 DLL 5.03 for "Yaskawa Indexer", and was created 10/25/02. The Exor HMI driver in conjunction with the Indexer will allow the user to do the following: 1. Read and write all Indexer (Pn800 to Pn834) and SGDH parameters (Pn000 to Pn601). 2. Read and write the Indexer program table, jog speed table, and PLS zone tables. 3. Monitor I/O, position, speed, torque, program status, alarms, errors, product information, and more. 4. In "rotary shortest" mode, what direction will the motor move if the commanded index is exactly opposite of the current position? Posted Date: 03/18/2002 Answer: In the rotary shortest mode of operation, the NS600 calculates the distance that the motor needs to travel in either direction to get from the current commanded position to the target position and rotates in the direction with the smaller distance. If the forward and reverse distances are equal, the motor will run in the forward direction. This decision is based on commanded position, not on actual position. forward distance < reverse distance : forward direction forward distance = reverse distance : forward direction forward distance > reverse distance : reverse direction To reverse the default forward/reverse direction, use parameter Pn000.0. By default, the forward direction is counterclockwise when viewing the shaft. How is the home sensor wired when using an SGDH with an NS600? Posted Date: 07/24/2013 Answer: When connecting an NS600 to the SGDH, the NS600 will mask off all of the digital input signals and set them according to Table 3.5 as shown on page 3-6 of the Indexer User's Manual. Pin 44 is configured by the NS600 to act as the /DEC switch (Home Input), which causes deceleration and search for the C-pulse (or whatever method is configured by Pn823.) Note that Pin 44 can be configured for N.O. or N.C. by parameter 80E. To run the homing routine, the Indexer must be placed into Mode 1 by selecting Mode 1 using the Mode 0/1 switch on Pin 3 of the NS600's CN4. After selecting Mode 1, the /Start-Stop; /HOME switch on Pin 5 of the NS600 Cn4 must be set to ON to begin the homing routine. Both of these signals can be configured for N.O. or N.C. by parameters Pn803 and Pn804 respectively. Can the NS600 be tested using serial commands sent from a PC? Posted Date: 03/26/2014 Answer: Yes. Serial communication can be tested from a PC using HyperTerminal. A serial connection can be established, and the NS600 can be operated using serial commands. To setup communication: 1. Connect a YS-12 cable from a comm port on the PC to CN6 on the NS600. 2. Open the HyperTerminal program. (C:\Start\Programs\Accessories\Communications\HyperTerminal) 3. Apply power to the NS600 (make sure it is connected to the SGDH) 4. Are there any examples showing NS600 Indexer Application Module(s) integrated with an HMI? Posted Date: 02/22/2005 Answer: Yes. Attached are several documents containing examples and descriptions of HMI products used with the NS600 product. The HMI Summary.pdf document reviews several machine control solutions using an HMI and the Sigma II Indexer application module(s). Up to 16 JUSP-NS600 Sigma II Indexer application modules can be connected to a single HMI via an RS232, RS422, or RS485 serial network (only use RS232 for single-axis applications). In general, any HMI that can communicate using a 7-bit ASCII protocol will work with the Indexer. Typically, the HMI manufacturer (such as Exor or Red Lion) will need to provide a driver in order to communicate with the Indexer . Yaskawa has performed extensive testing on Exor HMIs. An Exor driver for the Indexer has been developed and released. The Setting Up HMI for Indexer Demo.pdf document describes how to set up and demonstrate an Exor HMI and a single axis Indexer demo. The Exor HMI includes the use of an add-on internal PLC. The SingleAxis Demo.zip contains all the necessary files to set up this demonstration.
