How are user units and other related parameters configured when using MotionWorks+? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: When programming an MP940 Machine Controller, using MotionWorks+ programming environment, the following should be reviewed. This document illustrates the configuration of user units when using MotionWorks+. There are three main areas of interest: 1) System Properties 2) System Variables 3) System Parameters This document is intended to be a quick reference tool for configuration of user units. For more in depth information regarding the parameters discussed in this document, refer to the MotionWorks+ User's Manual YEA-SIA-C887-1.5x. Where x indicates revision level. How are the Electronic Gear Ratio parameters, Pn202 and Pn203, set for linear motors? Posted Date: 07/25/2005 Answer: The positioning resolution of the linear motor when used with the Sigma II SGDH servo amplifier in position mode is equal to the linear encoder scale pitch divided by 256. For a 20 micron pitch linear encoder (i.e. Renishaw RGH22B), the positioning resolution is 20 micron/256. The incoming position reference is scaled by the Electronic Gear Ratio. Pn202 is the Electronic Gear Ratio numerator, set to a default of 4. Pn203 is the Electronic Gear Ratio denominator, set to a default of "1". Therefore, with these these default settings, for every reference input pulse, the linear motor will move (4/1) x (20 microns/256) or 0.3125 microns, assuming a 20 micron pitch linear encoder. The Electronic Gear Ratio can be changed to allow for "friendlier" positioning units. For example, assuming a 20 micron pitch linear encoder: 1.) The desired position reference resolution is one micron (or 0.001mm). For every reference pulse, the linear motor moves one micron. To achieve this resolution, set Pn202=256 and Pn203=20. Now, for every reference pulse, the linear motor will move (256/20) x (20 microns/256) or one micron. 2.) The desired position reference resolution is 0.001 inch. Set Pn202=8128 and Pn203=25. Now for every reference pulse, the linear motor will move (8128/25) x (20 microns/256) x (25.4 inches/0.001mm), which is equal to 0.001 inch. How are registers in the MP9xx controller monitored from the PC? Posted Date: 09/06/2004 Answer: There are several ways to monitor registers in the MP940, MP930, or MP920 products. 1) MotionWorks+: If the original program was written in MotionWorks+, the "Data Monitoring" feature can be used to monitor the value of any user or system variable, including I/O monitoring. 2) MotionWorks Register List: MotionWorks ladder-based software has a Register List utility that allows the user to set or monitor groups of registers simply. 3) MotionWorks Tuning Panel: MotionWorks also has a utility called 'Tuning Panel', which allows you to set or monitor many individual registers. 4) HMI: Most major brands of HMI interfaces have Memobus drivers available for communication with Yaskawa MP Series controllers. 5) CamTool: CamTool allows tables of data (in the form of a generated cam table) to be sent to the controllers. (Requires MotionWorks or MotionWorks+ to be installed.) 6) CSVTool: A separate run-time software tool called 'CSVTool' allows CSV (Comma Separated Variable) files to be uploaded to or downloaded from the controller. (Requires MotionWorks or MotionWorks+ to be installed.) CLICK HERE for more information. 7) EXCELTool: This Microsoft Excel spreadsheet macro allows contents of specific cells to be changed by hand and sent to the controller. Registers can also be read from the controller. The Visual Basic program does all the data manipulation necessary to use the Modbus driver as a Memobus communication tool (required for MP9xx). How are pLimit_PositioningError and sPosition_CompletionWindow used to control positioning accuracy? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The goal in a positioning system is to get from Point A to Point B (see attached SmplMove.pdf). But how close to Point B must the system be? Also, how much deviation is allowed on the way to point B? MotionWorks+ has a couple of system parameters that can help the programmer manage this. As with all of the system parameters, these are described in the "Programming Concept" section in your MotionWorks+ software manual. pLimit_PositioningError: This parameter is the maximum allowable following error that the servo will be allowed to accumulate before an alarm is generated. This can occur during any part of the move. Usually, the maximum following error occurs during acceleration. If the following error exceeds this value, an A.9F alarm will be generated, and the system bit mPosition_Error_Exceeded will be set to "1". Even if a system needs to be very precise at the end of the move, the maximum error during the move will be much higher in most instances, depending on the acceleration. Remember to set the value of pLimit_PositioningError sufficiently high. This value will have NO EFFECT on the final position precision. sPosition_CompletionWindow: This parameter defines the maximum distance allowed between the final target and the servo for a move to be considered complete. If an index move with the "wait for completion" property set to "true" is used, program execution will be stalled until the position of the motor is at the commanded position, plus or minus this window. Setting this value larger just means that the final target need not be as close to the target before execution continues. The default value of sPosition_CompletionWindow is 0.0 user units, meaning that the motor has to be EXACTLY at position before execution can continue. With the default tuning gains in the amplifier being so low, it is often difficult to achieve this level of precision, and the program will appear to "freeze" on the index block. In reality, the program is waiting for the position to get within the window, something that the tuning gains are not high enough to accomplish. You may even find that a small push into position will cause the move to complete and the program to continue. Neither of these parameters will determine how closely a system will follow the command, only how the system will react to the error. The following error during the move and the precision at the end of the move are always determined by the tuning of the system. If the system is generating A.9F errors due to excessive position error, or if the program is hanging while waiting for a move to complete, then these are the parameters to check. If these parameters are set appropriately, then the tuning needs to be improved. How are Modbus/TCP update rates set when the MPiec controller is configured as the Modbus/TCP Master? How are cam tables organized? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The first point in the cam table is the number of master/follower pairs in the table. The subsequent points are the master and follower data points. If any master position is not found in the data table, the value will be interpolated from the nearest points. This interpolation is linear, so any "curved" sections of the cam table are actually made up from several small "straight-line" segments. Hbb fault occurs with the H1,H2 and HC jumpered, what else could the issue be? Posted Date: 08/28/2012 Answer: A Hbb fault can be caused by improper use of the drives (S1-S8)digital inputs. If a customer is using the drives internal power supply and uses SC as the ground, this will cause a Hbb fault. Please use SN when using the drives internal voltage in sinking mode. (See attached.) As a note, the drive can utilize the 2 separate sources of power for the safety digital inputs and the (S1-S8) drive, but does not pertain to the Hbb alarm we discuss here. Given a Sigma Mini SGMM-A1C312, What does the "C" stand for and what cables are used on this motor? Posted Date: 08/19/2004 Answer: SGMM-A1C312 is a non-CE rated version of the Sigma Mini motor. This motor is designated with a "C" right after the "A1" or "A2" in the part number (the CE rated motor has an "S" in this slot).
