	When moving away from a overtravel condition, the Sigma V servo system seems to prevent torque or rapidly enable/disable as the axis is moving out of the overtravel region. Can this situation be prevented? Posted Date: 10/06/2011 Answer: When the servo is controlled in position or speed mode, the ServoPack will not command torque the direction of an active overtravel. To completely prevent this condition when moving out of a overtravel region, use the MC_TorqueControl function block with a velocity limit and direction to move out of the overtravel region and prevent the torque "cutout" behavior from occurring. Otherwise, to reduce the torque cutout effects, turn off the controller feed forward setting, parameter 1310, which makes the condition more noticeable. 	When is it necessary to connect an external regen resistor to the SGDG LEGEND amplifier? Posted Date: 01/21/2002 Answer: Install an external regen resistor if the regenerative power from the load exceeds the processing capability of the LEGEND amplifier (usually associated with alarm #3: regen circuit error). Connect the resistor to terminals B1 and B2 on the Legend amplfier. On 1kW and 1.5 kW amplifiers, remove the jumper wire between B2 and B3 . Turn OFF #5 of SW 1 to disable the regen overload alarm. When the regen alarm is disabled, be sure the resistor has enough capacity (after proper derating) to dissipate the regen energy of the load. 	When dealing with harmonic noise, which is better-- an AC or a DC reactor? 	When configuring an IP address in the resource settings of MotionWorks IEC, what are the -TO and -P attributes? Posted Date: 11/10/2017 Answer: In the Settings dialog of a controller resource (launched by right-clicking on a resource in MotionWorks IEC), the IP address of the controller is set. In Yaskawa templates, this field is displayed as: 192.168.1.1 -TO2000 The -TO attribute is the communication timeout value for the controller in milliseconds. If MotionWorks IEC is unable to communicate for this period of time, a timeout error will occur. If no -TO value is displayed in the field, then the default value of -10000 (10 seconds) is used. The -P attribute is the port through which communications is established in the controller. It should always be left at the default value of -P41100 or communication to the controller will not be possible. 	When an MP940 with a 17-bit encoder is being operated, does the encoder resolution need to be reduced? Posted Date: 04/27/2001 Answer: A motor with a 17-bit encoder is capable of producing 131,072 post-quadrature pulses. However, the SGDH amplifier cannot physically reproduce the encoder output pulses at this rate. Therefore, when using a 17-bit encoder with an SGDH amplifier with a wired motion controller (such as the SMC-2000 or a non-Yaskawa controller), the amplifier can output a maximum of 65,536 pulses per revolution to the controller. This value is set with parameter Pn201 as a pre-quadrature value. When an MP940 controller is used in conjunction with the SGDH amplifier, there are no actual "pulses" sent to the controller. Instead, an encoder value is set in a Dual Port RAM register which is read by the MP940. Therefore, there is no reason to reduce the number of pulses that can be used by the MP940 controller. When an MP940 controller is used with an SGDH amplifier, the full 131,072 pulses per revolution can be used. 	What’s the maximum number of axes that could be controlled and configured by a Compass solution? Posted Date: 05/21/2020 Answer: It depends on the application, and also on the group mechanism configured in the MotionWorks IEC Pro Hardware Configuration. For most systems described below, axes can be operated by more than one motor in a shared load (prime axis) configuration, which is supported and transparent to a Compass solution. G-Codes X Y Z A B C and E are linked to world space Cartesian and Rotational axes, E is linked to the active extruder when configured as a 3D Printer. The use of a machine requiring A and B rotational motion requires an MP3000iec series controller ending in part number –ER. -ER release is expected Summer 2020 with UL certification For 3D printing, typically a three-axis gantry plus up to three extruders can be configured. For Milling, typically a three-axis gantry plus auxiliary axes for tangent and up to three spindles can be configured. Any group configured in the MotionWorks IEC Pro Hardware Configuration can be controlled by Compass and G-Code. Because the Compass solution is highly customizable, any number of additional (typically unsynchronized) axes can be added and customized for operations outside of the traditional G-Code use case, only limited by the number of axes the MP3000iec series controller can support.
