Posted Date: 12/15/2014 Answer: Blend Mode in MotionWorks IEC Cam Editor is used to create cam tables with three distinct sections: An entry cam, a running cam, and an exit cam. It is useful for application like rotary knives that may need to start and stop based on a sensor input. When sizing with SigmaSelect, the cam data from this type of cam is not useful because it does not properly refect the accelerations and decelerations that the mechanism undergoes. Only the running cam is imported into SigmaSelect. To size this type of application, it is best to simulate the worst-case conditions with a trapezoidal move. Usually the worst case scenario is a single cycle starting and ending at a complete stop. 	Can a smooth shaft Yaskawa motor be replaced with one that has keyway shaft? Posted Date: 01/04/2002 Answer: In most cases, yes. Motors with keyway shafts can be run with the key fitted, or without the key. The couplings that are used with smooth shaft motors are typically compression fitted. These couplings also fit well on motor shafts with keyway. If the user wishes to fill the keyway space, a half key may be installed in the shaft keyway. This half key is typically a full length rectangular key of half height. For information on couplings, please refer to the attached document. 	Can a single HMI be used to communicate to multiple controllers? Posted Date: 05/22/2001 Answer: If several controllers have the same communication protocol (such as Memobus for the Yaskawa MP9xx products), there are many HMIs which can communicate to multiple controllers using RS-485 multi-drop wiring. This forms an electronic network where the HMI acts as the communication master and the individual PLC/controller devices are slaves. Up to 32 nodes can be connected using this method. If a system has controllers using two different protocols, communication to both protocols is possible if the HMI supports "Dual-Driver" or "Multi-Driver" communications. Contact the HMI manufacturer directly to inquire about availability of this feature. 	Can a SGD7S Analog SERVOPACK in speed control with an analog voltage reference use a sequence input to change the running Servomotor direction? Posted Date: 02/15/2017 Answer: Yes. The SGD7S Analog SERVOPACK has added the ability to use the /SPD-D (Motor Direction Input) Signal in speed control with an analog voltage reference. See attachment for more detail. 	Can a servomotor be energized while it is moving? Posted Date: 07/31/2001 Answer: The SGDH amplifier will not energize a servomotor that is moving. Because of this, it is important to have proper brake timing, especially on vertical applications. The SGDH has a built-in holding brake interlock (/BK output) that is the safest and most reliable way to make sure that the holding brake is applied correctly. Example Situation: A customer wishes to use a simple digital output from a PLC to control his brake output (instead of the Yaskawa-recommended /BK output). The customer programs his PLC to remove the brake at the same time as he energizes his servo. If the brake releases before the motor is energized, gravity will cause the motor to coast downward. The SGDH will begin its attempt to energize the motor (digital display says "run"), but the amplifier will not allow the motor to be energized because it is moving. When the motor stops either by a hard stop or by external force, the SGDH will energize the motor. The motor will now be able to move as the controller commands. The solution to this situation is to hold the brake on longer to give the motor a chance to apply power. If the /BK output is used, the timing functions are all built-in to the SGDH. For more information on using the Holding Brake Interlock with the SGDH amplifier, consult the SGDH User's Manual (YEA-SIA-S800-32.2) section 5.4.4.
