	In the MP940 controller, how are the FLASH and COPY switches used? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: When an MP940 program is executed, it runs from RAM memory, and variables (or registers) reside in RAM. Without a battery, this memory will naturally decay and lose information over time, so Yaskawa recommends that a battery is attached to the MP940 to maintain the data in RAM. An alternate method of preserving the program data and register data is to store it in the built-in flash memory of the amplifier. The entire contents of RAM can be saved to Flash using either MotionWorks or MotionWorks+. To retrieve the data from Flash, simply set the dip switches on the front of the MP940 unit. Operation note: Upon application of control power with ONLY the "RUN" switch on, the controller will use the program and registers that are currently resident in RAM. WIthout a battery, the RAM memory is subject to loss, and could result in an A.E0 or A.9F alarm. With the "Flash" switch on during power up, the program will be copied from Flash to RAM for runtime. With the "Copy" switch on, the variable (register) data will be copied from Flash to RAM for runtime. Flash: The "flash" switch copies the ladder programs from Flash to RAM on power-up. The data registers, however, are not copied. Copy: The "copy" switch copies the global variables ('M' registers) from Flash to RAM. The values of these switches are checked during power-up, therefore power must be cycled after turning the switches ON. If the MP940 does not have a battery, both switches should be left on all the time. If variables (registers) are changed on a constant basis (such as from an HMI), and need to be retained, then a battery will be necessary. 	In some pumping systems the motor speed is normally about 80% of rated motor speed. However, periodic purging of the pumping system requires the pump to go to full speed for a while, then return to normal. How is this done with the V7 Drive? 	In MotionWorks IEC Pro, what is the difference between a 'zipped' and a 'sealed' project? Posted Date: 07/03/2013 Answer: There are three ways to save a MotionWorks IEC Pro project: 1. The normal method of saving a project is saving it as a standard project (project.mwt). This saves the project in a readily useable format, with the main project file called *.mwt and an associated folder with all code, graphical elements, set up files, etc . In this format, the code can be edited and debugged readily, however, it is difficult to share the project with others in this format. 2. When a project is to be archived and / or shared with others, create a zipped project (project.zwt). This format compresses the project, as well as optionally including user and firmware libraries, front-end (compiled) code and graphical page layouts (see the help file in MotionWorks IEC Pro for more information about these options). Before a zwt file it can be used, it must be unzipped using MotionWorks IEC Pro. This will uncompress the project into the .mwt format. 3. In MotionWorks IEC Pro 2.3.0 and higher, a project can be saved as a sealed project (project.zws). This is similar to a zipped project but protects the integrity of the code. A sealed project becomes read only, and allows the programmer to share the project source code with an end user or service technician without fear that the code will be inadvertently changed. Assuming the Sealed Project version is the same as the code originally downloaded to the machine, the user can debug a machine without compiling and downloading. Tools such as Logic Analyzer and debug mode, and read/write recipes and watch window are available. The user CANNOT modify the project, and the project cannot be re-compiled (see the help file in MotionWorks IEC Pro for the complete list of benefits and restrictions of a sealed project). 	In MotionWorks IEC Hardware Configuration, why are the Mechatrolink III axes displayed as offline when the ServoPacks are powered up with no alarms? Posted Date: 06/05/2015 Answer: If the controller had any problems discovering the ServoPacks when powering up, the ServoPacks may have to be power cycled. The first remedy to try is power cycle the entire system. For the axes to be displayed as online, they must have been powered up before the MWiec controller. Since the controller takes several seconds to complete its power up phase, powering the entire system at the same time is fine. If there is no Startup configuration, or if any of the hardware may have been changed, check the switch settings for all ServoPacks. All Mechatrolink III devices must be configured for 48 byte packets and the assigned node numbers must be unique and in the range of 3 to 64. Next, confirm that all cables are connected correctly. The MP3000iec controllers and ServoPacks have LEDs in the Mechatrolink connector that are lit when a cable is plugged into the socket that is connected to an active node. When all devices are powered, check the LED status in all connectors. Finally, if there is a Startup configuration and all the hardware is configured correctly, check the configured response times. The configured response times must be very close to the measured response times. Values that are slightly lower, or much higher than the measured response times may cause the controller not to connect to these nodes. The measured response times can be viewed by allowing doing the following: 1) Using the web server, delete the Startup Configuration 2) Set the MWiec controller to self configure (CNFG DIP switch must be ON) 3) Using the Hardware Configuration, connect with a new project, or connect with an existing project and use the discovered configuration. 4) Refer to the Mechatrolink-III node in the Hardware Configuration to view the measured response times. 	In a vertical axis application, the motor trips the overtravel switch and coasts to the hard stop. What might be the cause? Posted Date: 07/23/2001 Answer: The SGDH servopack has the ability to control the stop mode when an overtravel is tripped (if overtravel switches are wired into the SGDH as recommended). The default method of stopping is to disable the motor and allow the dynamic brake to stop the motor. This method works very well in most horizontal applications, but vertical applications require a different method. When using an MP940, the SGDH overtravel function will disable the motor, even if the MP940 did not execute the disable servomotor block. In this mode, the motor will then continue to coast, and the MP940 is not able to apply torque to stop the motor (because it is not enabled). In this example, it is better to change the overtravel method to keep the motor enabled when an overtravel is tripped. This can be done by setting the overtravel stop mode Pn001.1 to 1 (default is 0). This change allows the MP940 to bring the motor to a controlled stop. If the forward and reverse distances are equal, the motor will run in the forward direction. This decision is based on commanded position, not on actual position. forward distance < reverse distance : forward direction forward distance = reverse distance : forward direction forward distance > reverse distance : reverse direction To reverse the default forward/reverse direction, use parameter Pn000.0. 	I just recently added a PG board to my F7 drive, I now have a CPF06 active on my drive and it will not clear, what did I do wrong? PRELIMINARY: - Start with Yaskawa.com SRV-E17E47. - Proceed with AN.MTN.01 “EtherCAT Master Architecture”. - Additional topics pertaining to EtherCAT master development are below: ESI File Usage: - By reading the Yaskawa ESI file, the Yaskawa drive’s manufacturer specific objects may be visible to be read and written (example: Yaskawa drive parameters). - For SGDV, if reading the ESI file, only 1 PDO map assignment per Sync Manager assignment is allowed (due to the “exclude” tag), when in fact 2 are possible if reading the PDO information from the EEPROM. - Therefore, the recommendation is to read the ESI file for CoE objects, and then read the EEPROM for the PDO info. Network Trace Tool: - Obtain a network trace tool if a Wireshark trace can provide useful information for development. - Product: Beckhoff ET2000. A nanosecond timestamp is added to the packet. - Search ethercat.org for additional information about Wireshark usage. Known Working EtherCAT Master For Comparison: - Refer to AN.MTN.03 “EtherCAT Servo Drive Quick Start Guide” for instructions to set up a known working EtherCAT Master for comparison for EtherCAT master development. COMMUNICATIONS: Enabling Distributed Clocks: - Some stack vendors distribute the Distributed Clock (DC) mechanism as a separate package (example: acontis). Yaskawa requires using DC when using Cyclic motion modes as indicated in AN.MTN.01. - The DC mechanism is possible to be implemented independent of using the DC mechanism package from the master stack vendor, but support from Yaskawa to implement a successful DC mechanism may be limited, as Yaskawa recommends obtaining the developed DC mechanism package from the master stack vendor. Implementation of the DC mechanism may require additional documentation from Yaskawa regarding ESC registers. This may be available upon request. - Refer to AN.MTN.01 for a process to determine usage and settings of DC.
