Class Topics:

This class is designed for technicians and engineers who need to be able to troubleshoot the Yaskawa Matrix drive product and have already taken and passed the class entitled “Hands-On Troubleshooting for the 1000 Generation Drives” TRM030-HOTS1000. Yaskawa’s Matrix Drive Product Line includes the U1000, the Z1000U and the U1000 iQpump drives. The student will learn to troubleshoot the VFD by first learning to read the elementary diagram. Next, the student will be taught the procedures to use test equipment to identify bad components in the variable speed drive. Then the fault codes will be explained. The procedures to replace the control board and gate drive board and flash the firmware will also be covered.

Class topics include but are not limited to:

  1. First things first
    1. Review of the Installation and Start up Workshop
    2. Take a tour of the Matrix drive demo unit
    3. Discuss the necessary tools to troubleshoot and repair the Matrix drive
  2. Schematic Walkthrough
    1. Explanations of the purpose for each component in the circuit
    2. Understand the layers of the drive and the cable routing
  3. Checks without power
    1. Learn and perform procedures to check drive components
    2. Learn and perform procedures to check motor windings
  4. Checks with power
    1. Review safety protocols
    2. Discuss the list of checks and how to perform them
    3. Discuss the monitor and parameter displays
    4. Discuss the modified constants
    5. Learn about and perform voltage checks with a meter
    6. Learn about and collect waveform traces with an oscilloscope
  5. Replacing the control board and the gate drive board
    1. Performing the procedure using the external 24VDC
    2. Performing the procedure using line power
  6. Flashing firmware
    1. How to identify the firmware
    2. Demonstration of how to flash the firmware
  7. Fault codes
    1. Review the codes, what they mean and how to eliminate them
    2. Discuss specific fault codes related to the Matrix drive

Class Materials:

Students will receive a copy of the class training manual as well as selected product user and instruction manuals in paper and/or electronic format.

Safety:

Yaskawa TTS provides a number of training classes for its customers that require the use of low-level voltages (120vac, 208vac, and 460vac). To ensure a level of safety for the student while working with training class equipment using these voltages, TTS follows an Arch Flash Policy that is consistent with NFPA 70E.

Each student attending the class must wear non-melting, untreated, natural fiber long pants.

Prerequisites:

Required: Hands-on Troubleshooting for 1000 Generation Drives Class (TRM030-HOTS1000)

It is highly recommended that you review the VFD Basics eLearning Module (eLM.VFDB.01) and the Motor Basics eLearning Module (eLM.MTR.02.MotorBasics) before attending this class

Class Format:

This class runs from 8:30 to 5:00 pm each day, with a one-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks. The third day starts at 8:30 am and runs until 12:00pm with one 15-minute break. The class consists of approximately 70% hands-on exercises and 30% lecture.

Continuing Education Units:

Continuing Education Units will be awarded to those students that attend this training class in its entirety and pass the certification test with a score of 80% or better. Yaskawa does not provide partial CEU credits for less than 100% attendance. As an IACET Accredited Provider, Yaskawa America Inc. offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard. Yaskawa America, Inc. is accredited by IACET to offer 1.7 CEUs for this program.

Costs associated with travel, lodging, and evening meals are not included and are the student's responsibility.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Yaskawa reserves the right to cancel a scheduled class at any time due to low student enrollment. In this situation, the student will be asked to reschedule or the tuition cost will be refunded. Yaskawa is not liable for any charges incurred by the customer (i.e.; airline, hotel, and rental car) due to cancellation.

A student may cancel their enrollment more than one week before the start of the class with no penalty. A student wishing to cancel their enrollment within one week of the class start date will be subject to these charges:

  • The cancellation fee for end users, if canceling within one week for a scheduled factory class is 50% of the total class tuition fee.
  • The cancellation fee for Drives and Motion Distributors, if canceling within one week of a scheduled factory training class is 100% of the total tuition fee.
  • The cancellation fee for end users and distributors, if canceling an on-site class within three weeks of a scheduled class date is 100% of the class tuition and logistical fees.
