These leads are connected to pins 18 and 20 of the SMC-4000 axis connector which are both labeled as no connection in the SMC-4000 User's Manual. Cable SMCCBL0XX is also used for the SMC-2000, which had a battery connection on pins 18 and 20. However, when being used with an SMC-4000, leads +BA and -BA should not be connected.
Typically, the SMC-2000 has been used with Sigma I amplifiers that have no battery provision of their own, so the SMC-2000 included a battery holder and connections to supply the absolute encoder with power.
The SMC-4000 is typically used with Sigma II amplifiers, which do include a provision for an absolute encoder battery, so there is no need to supply battery power from the controller.
