FAQ: Do you need to have the Control Power on in order to use the Dynamic Braking features of the Sigma-5 Servopack?

If the Control Power is turned off before the Servopack receives the SV_OFF command, then the stopping method will vary by the Servopack model.
These models will stop their motors by coasting in this scenario: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D.
These models will stop their motors by using the dynamic brake in this scenario: All other Servopacks except: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D.
If the Main Power is turned off before the Servopack receives the SV_OFF command then the servomotor will be stopped by use of the dynamic brake functionality.
If you wish to have the servomotor coast to a stop when the Main Power circuit or the Control Power circuit is turned off before the SV_OFF command is received, then you will have to use an external method to disconnect the UVW phases to the motor in this scenario.
If the SV_OFF command is received before the Main Power circuit and the Control Power circuit are turned off then the stopping method can be controlled by parameters in the Servopack (PN001).
