For most systems described below, axes can be operated by more than one motor in a shared load (prime axis) configuration, which is supported and transparent to a Compass solution. G-Codes X Y Z A B C and E are linked to world space Cartesian and Rotational axes, E is linked to the active extruder when configured as a 3D Printer. The use of a machine requiring A and B rotational motion requires an MP3000iec series controller ending in part number –ER. -ER release is expected Summer 2020 with UL certification For 3D printing, typically a three-axis gantry plus up to three extruders can be configured. For Milling, typically a three-axis gantry plus auxiliary axes for tangent and up to three spindles can be configured. Any group configured in the MotionWorks IEC Pro Hardware Configuration can be controlled by Compass and G-Code. What would cause an "06" communications error code in an HMI when talking to one or more NS600(s)? Posted Date: 11/21/2001 Answer: Error code 06 in the HMI indicates a Response Error. It could be caused by unmatched settings, noise, or response out of range. It is important to insure all the communications parameters are properly fixed. Please verify the following: 1) The HMI is expecting an "OK" response from every command sent to the NS600. This is possible by setting Pn802 = 1. 2) The HMI does not want an echo from the NS600 on characters sent. This can be set by Pn800 to 0 or 5. Most common example: If using single or muti-drop 4 wire RS422, no echo is possible by setting Pn800 = 0. (note that the delimiter expected at the HMI is a CRLF). 3) Baud rate settings must match in HMI and NS600. Most common example: if using 19.2kbaud, then setting of Pn801 = 1. 4) Address switch settings must be fixed properly. NS600 address swich must match the address reference per data field in HMI. 5) Verify wiring diagram vs actual wiring (see alternate FAQ). Terminator must be placed in the last physical node (100ohm). Maximum distance is 3m (RS232C) and 50m (RS422/485). 6) Transmission protocol format must be matched at: 1 start bit, 7 databit (ASCII), 1 parity bit (even), 1 stop bit, no XON/XOFF control, half duplex. 7) System Field Ground must be installed properly. Each SGDH must have a properly sized ground wire ran to a single point in the control cabinet. HMI should use the ground spade with a 14-16 AWG wire running to a single point in the control cabinet (star ground configuration). Shielding of HMI-NS600 cable should be terminated at the HMI side. Check for ground loops in the system. Note: Pn numbers can be set in the NS600 using IndexWorks Software. What will happen if there is only .5'' clearance from either top or bottom of the drive to an enclosure? Posted Date: 03/14/2006 Answer: There MUST be a minimum of 4.7'' clearance above and below the drive (varies by model) to allow airflow over the heat sink. Otherwise, an OH alarm (cooling fin overheat) may occur. Also, a minimum 1.2'' clearance (varies by model) is required on each side of the drive. What type of Errors and Alarms are on the controller? Posted Date: 02/18/2009 Answer: 1. Pn002 not correctly initialized: This alarm may appear on the controller before on starting a new project. This alarm can be removed by going online with the Configuration Tool (CT) and saving the desired configuration to the controller and project and finally cycling power to the controller. On reboot, the controller should be free of the Pn002 not initialized alarm. 2. I/O Driver initialization error: This alarm is caused because the configured drivers did not find the I/O devices when the PLC was run. The most common cause for this is missing I/O devices and/or EtherNet IP, MODBUS TCP devices (from the configuration saved on the controller). User may have to reconnect the disconnected device or re-configure the controller through the configuration tool, save and cycle power. 3. WatchDog Alarm: The scan time of the task is not large enough for the task to complete one scan. Make the scan time larger by going to Task> Settings> Scan Time. Make sure that mechatrolink axes are not being enabled in the very first scan of the project. What steps are required to communicate to a LEGEND-MC from a laptop PC via Ethernet? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: Any device that attempts connection via Ethernet must have a unique IP (Internet Protocol) address. Having an IP address for a device is much like having a phone number for a telephone. As it would be impossible to make a call without a phone number, a connection cannot be established with a device if it does not have an IP address. Many networks use a service called DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) that automatically assigns IP addresses as devices log on to the network. If the PC has not been connected to the network (that uses DHCP), it does not have an IP. Therefore, it cannot connect to the Legend-MC. The PC must be configured (using Network Properties) to have an IP address. The Legend-MC must also be configured to have an IP address, using the IA command. (Remember that the IP address assigned to the Legend-MC will not be saved during a power cycle unless the BN command is used). What to set the IP address to: This depends on how the PC TCP/IP properties are configured. If the PC has a static IP address of 192.138.7.1 and the Subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, the first three bytes of the IP address of the Legend MC must be the same as the PC. The last place must be different than the PC or any other device on the network. Be careful assigning IP addresses while on a network, as there are proper protocols in place regarding IP address usage/assignment. To communicate, the PC must be running software that uses the Telnet protocol. Yaskawa's YTerm5 software includes an alpha version of the VComm communications utility that will accomplish the task. Finally, a direct PC to Legend-MC connection requires a Category 5 "crossover" cable and no other hardware. If the connection is over a network, a standard Category 5 "straight through" cable and hub or switch is required. The software is free of charge from the Yaskawa website. A Communication cable to connect between the PC and the drive is required. The cable part number is UWR00468-2. What should the inertia ratio parameter, Pn103, be set to in the Sigma II amplifier when the inertia ratio is not known? Posted Date: 06/24/2013 Answer: Pn103 only takes effect when the amplifier is in Speed Mode or Position Mode (Pn000.1=0 or 1). If the amplifier is in Torque Mode (Pn000.1=2), then Pn103 has no effect on the servo tuning parameters. If machine performance is satisfactory with the default setting of Pn103, it can be left at the default setting. However, it is important to note that if Pn103 (inertia ratio setting) is set to the true inertia ratio, then Pn100 value itself will accurately represent the actual speed loop frequency response in Hz. But when high performance is required, Pn103 should always be set as close as possible to the true inertia ratio before beginning to manually tune the Sigma II and/or controller. There are 3 methods for determining the inertia ratio. 1. Use the inertia ratio from the sizing results in "SigmaSize" based on the dimensions and material properties of all the parts that the servomotor causes to move. 2. Use the amplifier's built-in online auto-tuning algorithm. (Fn007 on the digital operator). 3. Use graphical analysis techniques. When the components of the machine cannot be accurately measured or modeled with SigmaSize, the preferred method is #3 - graphical analysis techniques. Yaskawa has developed a spreadsheet to be used for this purpose. This spreadsheet is attached below. Yaskawa has also developed an "eLearning Module" on this subject. This interactive training tutorial simulates both SigmaWin100 and the attached spreadsheet. The user is guided through a real-life example, while being given the opportunity to click and enter data at the appropriate times as if the software was actually being used. This eLearning Module takes 15-20 minutes to complete. It is attached below. The eLearning Module runs as an executable file on any PC. A sound card and speakers are recommended since there is audio. However, the audio is not absolutely necessary since all information and instructions are also displayed as text. Screen resolution of 800X600 or greater is recommended. The Inertia Ratio Parameter, Pn103, is only one part of tuning the SigmaII amplifier. Yaskawa also offers a complete Tuning Class. What should be done with the CN8 connection when using the Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A)? Posted Date: 06/09/2023 Answer: For Sigma-5 (SGDV) and Sigma-7 100/200V (SGD7S-*F, SGD7S-A): There should be nothing connected to the CN8* connection when using the Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A). If the safety function jumper is plugged into the CN8, alarms (A.E74 or A.EB3) will occur. Please remove it before commissioning the SERVOPACK. For more information, please refer to the Sigma-5 & Sigma-7 Safety Module User Manual (SIEPC72082906). Note: When using the Sigma-7 400V FT900 Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A000FT900) the CN8 connection is active and can be used for STO. See SRV-E7PQJT For Sigma-7 400V (SGD7-D): The safety function jumper must remain in CN8 (in the case of dual-axis, in CN8A). If the safety function jumper is removed from CN8, or if the safety jumper does not exist when the SERVOPACK is powered on, A.EB3 occurs.
