Can an SGMJV-08A motor be driven by SGDV-2R8F 100V drive? Posted Date: 03/03/2015 Answer: The SGDV-2R8F, 100V input amplifier does not have enough bus capacitance to sustain rapid acceleration and to maintain acceptable ripple current level in such mismatch combination. Under-voltage alarm may occur during rapid acceleration. Further, the bus capacitance isn't designed to absorb excess regen during rapid deceleration. This may cause over-voltage alarms. Using in this manner will degrade the life of the bus capacitors, and may cause premature failure. This combination is not recommended. Can an MPiec Series Controller be programmed to measure the length a product passing on a conveyor? Posted Date: 03/10/2014 Answer: It is possible to use one sensor to capture the encoder position of the motor as it detects the leading and trailing edges of the product as it passes below the sensor. One will need to wire the sensor output to two separate high speed latch inputs on the Servopack and change the polarity of the active signal for one of them. Then use the MC_TouchProbe function block to capture the encoder positions. Finally, subtract the two captured positions to calculate the result. See the attached document for details. Unlike the drive itself, this card has current-sinking inputs which allows the use of an external power supply or PLC DC output card with current-sourcing (PNP) outputs. Can an EtherCAT Master monitor the external encoder position of an SGD7 EtherCAT SERVOPACK with a Fully-closed Module (SGDV-OFA01A)? Posted Date: 08/23/2021 Answer: Yes, the external encoder position of the encoder connected to the Fully-closed Module may be monitored. The encoder may be an incremental encoder or an absolute encoder. This function is available when a rotary motor is connected to the SERVOPACK. (This function is not available when a linear motor is connected to the SERVOPACK.) The SGD7 EtherCAT SERVOPACK with a Fully-closed Module (SGDV-OFA01A) can pass on the external encoder position so it can be monitored by an EtherCAT Master. Note: The functionality is only available when the SERVOPACK is in semi-closed operation (Pn002.3 = 0). To enable monitoring the external encoder, perform the following steps: Set Pn00E.3 = 1 or 3. “1” to use the external encoder in forward reference. “3” to use the external encoder in reverse reference. For absolute external encoders, set PnB9C = 1 so that the Electronic Gear Ratio in Pn210 and Pn20E is 1:1. (This may be updated in the future to remove this step, but it is required as of ECAT FW 8.14 across all Sigma-7 ECAT SERVOPACKS). Cycle power on the SGD7. Object 0x60E4:01 contains the external incremental encoder position. Can a negative speed reference be used to command the drive to reverse direction when using the Profibus option? Posted Date: 01/10/2003 Answer: Motor rotation cannot be reversed by inputting a negative speed reference when using the Profibus option. Negative speed reference values are not recognized and should not be used to reverse direction of the motor. To reverse motor rotation, a reverse run command must be provided. Can a MCCB rated higher than the recommended rating, be installed ahead of a drive to supply the 3 phase power? Posted Date: 06/12/2014 Answer: This is not recommended. Rules for installing a MCCB are similar to input fusing. Too high of a value will not be safe enough to trip, in case of high amperage on the input of a drive. This could result in damage to the input semiconductor devices. Always use recommended branch circuit protection components according to NEC and/or manufacturer recommendations.. Can a Dynamic Braking resistor be installed on a J7 Drive? Posted Date: 10/11/2004 Answer: The J7 Drive does not have an internal braking transistor therefore that option can not be installed. An separate braking module is be needed. It may be more cost effective to use a V7 Drive instead for that application. C21 unit is connected and runs in Hand and Auto fine. But, the input circuit breaker is tripping while attempting to run in Bypass mode. Why? Posted Date: 06/20/2013 Answer: Before a C21 unit leaves the factory, the input circuit breaker trip point is adjusted to the lowest setting. The customer will need to adjust trip point based on the application type, either fan or pump. Circuit breaker will need to be adjusted until motor runs in Bypass mode without tripping. At what uplink speeds is the MP2600iec controller capable of communicating? Posted Date: 09/22/2016 Answer: The MP2600iec uses 100Base-T (100Mbit/s) Ethernet speed. The MP2600iec is the only MPiec series controller that cannot inherently operate at both 10Base-T and 100Base-T speeds. A Siemens Apogee FLN option board is installed on GPD506 bypass drive so a run command can be initiated through network communications. After a safety circuit fault has been reset, the drive will not run again even though it has been commanded to. Why is this happening?
