Sometimes my machine power-up position is incorrect even though I have an absolute encoder on the motor. What is causing this issue? Posted Date: 05/19/2015 Answer: The absolute encoder rollover value must be properly calculated and stored in servopack parameter Pn205. This parameter is the Multi-Turn Limit Setting. It is necessary to set this value properly for rotary applications which move infinitely in one direction and utilize an absolute encoder. Example applications include indexing tables, spindles, turrets, winders, and conveyors. Pn205 allows the absolute encoder to synchronize itself with the mechanical load's position. The value must be chosen so that the number of turns tracked by the absolute encoder of the motor is an integer multiple of the desired mechanical cycle of the mechanism. When Pn205 is set incorrectly, the mechanism's home position may not be correct after a power cycle. Please see the attached documents that illustrate how to calculate Pn205 with three example applications. IMPORTANT NOTE: After making a change to Pn205 and cycling the power, the drive will display alarm A.CC0 (Multi-turn Limit Disagreement Error). This alarm is fixed by executing the "Multiturn Reset" function found in the web server (section "Machine Operations", tab "Drive Pn"). After executing this function, cycle power again to clear the alarm. It is possible to install a single licensed copy of MotionWorks IEC on multiple computers and move the license from computer to computer? Posted Date: 01/26/2016 Answer: Yes, the license can be moved between computers with installations of the same major version. The major versions are: - MotionWorks IEC Express [1.x.x] - MotionWorks IEC Pro [1.x.x] - MotionWorks IEC 2 Express [2.x.x] - MotionWorks IEC 2 Pro [2.x.x] License transfer for MotionWorks IEC version 3 and up, see document PN.MWIEC.06 (partner login required). Is there information available on replacing a Sigma-5 Mechatrolink ServoPack in a system controlled by an MPiec Series Controller without using MotionWorks IEC software? Posted Date: 09/23/2013 Answer: Yes. This Servopack replacement procedure requires MPiec controller's firmware version to be 2.2.1 or above: 1. Login to the MPiec webserver. 2. Select the "Drive Parameters" page. 3. Under "User Parameters" select "Write" for the replaced servopack(s). The parameters are saved into the replaced Servopack. 4. Cycle power on the system. 5. After the system reboots, under "User Parameters," press Verify to confirm that there is no unexpected mismatch. Note that some IEC applications may be programmed to set certain Servopack parameters, which may be different than the backup image of parameters stored in the MPiec controller. Is there a solution for MotionWorks IEC v2.x to enable the Hardware Configuration to recognize an unknown SGDV model number? Posted Date: 12/20/2017 Answer: With MotionWorks IEC v2.x, it may have been necessary to include a file (as described below) to ensure that all SGDV drives were read correctly. In general, this problem has been fixed and should no be necessary when using newer version of MothinWorks IEC v3.x. The following solution is applicable for MotionWorks IEC 2.x and SGDV drive ONLY. MotionWorks IEC 3.0 and later, as well as Sigma-7 drive compatiblity, are NOT supported using this method. Please contact Yaskawa Technical Support Group in these situations. If a file named "Compatibleparts.XML" is added to the following MotionWorks IEC working directory, the Hardware Configuration will treat an unknown part number as a part number in its database. A reference file which can be edited is included on this page. This solution is only recommended if your version of MotionWorks IEC does not recognize the part number of a Sigma-5 servopack on the network, such as a single phase 1.5KW servopack, or the fanless servopacks that end in 002000. Is there any information available to clarify the compiler error "Illegal Identifier"? Posted Date: 06/11/2013 Answer: Yes. In addition to the MotionWorks IEC compiler "Help on Message," which states: You have used a wrong identifier. According to IEC 61131-3 identifier are strings of letters or digits and underscores which must begin with a letter or an underscore. The use of multiple leading or embedded underscores is not allowed. The following situation will also cause the Illegal Identifier message: If making a STRING literal, such as STRING#"MC=TRUE" - do not use double quotes around the text. Single quotes must be used. Is there any information available regarding the communication cabapilities of the 218IF-Y1 option card available for the MPiec Series Controllers? Posted Date: 10/28/2013 Answer: Yes, The following describes the capabilities of the 218IF-Y1 card: Q1: Is web server access possible via 218IF-Y1? A1: Yes, from a PC on the same network, simply go to the IP address of the 218IF-Y1 card. Q2: Are Modbus/TCP and Ethernet/IP protocols supported by the 218IF-Y1? A2: Yes, all protocols available on the main Ethernet port are possible on the 218IF-Y1 card. Other devices acting as a Modbus master or Ethernet/IP scanner can communicate to any ethernet port on the MPiec Series Controller and the MP will respond. Q3: How can IO configure the 218IF-Y1 card to communication Modbus or Ethernet/IP? I don't see a screen supporting this in the Hardware Configuration. A3: The communication protocols are not linked to a specific ethernet port. Communications are automatically routed to the correct ethernet port based on the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. For example, assume the MPiec controller has the following IP address configuration: Default gateway = 192.168.1.253 Main port = 192.168.1.1 with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 218IF-Y1 port = 192.168.2.1 with subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 If the Hardware configuration includes a Modbus slave at 192.168.2.10, the MPiec controller will automatically route the communications to that device from the 218IF-Y1 card. This is because they have the same address when filtered by the subnet mask. (192.168.2) If the Hardware Configuration includes a modbus slave at 192.168.207.30, the controller will send the communications to the Default Gateway, which in the example given above is the main port. This is because the first three octets of the IP address match the default Gateway (192.168.1) in accordance with the subnet mask (255.255.255.0) Q4: Are custom TCP/IP protocols possible with 218IF-Y1? A4: These are supported in the same manner described in A3.
