Posted Date: 07/24/2013 Answer: When connecting an NS600 to the SGDH, the NS600 will mask off all of the digital input signals and set them according to Table 3.5 as shown on page 3-6 of the Indexer User's Manual. Pin 44 is configured by the NS600 to act as the /DEC switch (Home Input), which causes deceleration and search for the C-pulse (or whatever method is configured by Pn823.) Note that Pin 44 can be configured for N.O. or N.C. by parameter 80E. To run the homing routine, the Indexer must be placed into Mode 1 by selecting Mode 1 using the Mode 0/1 switch on Pin 3 of the NS600's CN4. After selecting Mode 1, the /Start-Stop; /HOME switch on Pin 5 of the NS600 Cn4 must be set to ON to begin the homing routine. Both of these signals can be configured for N.O. or N.C. by parameters Pn803 and Pn804 respectively. Posted Date: 01/04/2019 Answer: When the resource dialog is opened, this error is shown if the project was compiled with build settings that are greater than the firmware build on the controller, and a function block is included in the project that is newer or has newer behavior than the firmware. For example if the program was compiled with build settings of MP3300iec 3.5.0 and the controller firmware is 3.3.0, and the project contains a function block that was added or modified since version 3.3.0. To correct the issue, recompile with equal (recommended) or lower build settings. How is the download error “The sum of static data size and dynamic data size exceeds the physical available data memory size” fixed? Posted Date: 11/28/2018 Answer: This error is usually generated when retained variables are included in a project and the controller does not support them. The Sigma-7Siec controller does not support retained variables, and the user cannot add them directly; however, retained variables can be added inadvertently by including a user library which employs retain variables. This error is most commonly caused by including the AbsolutePositionManager function block (from the PLCopen_Toolbox) in the project. To clear the error: 1. Remove the AbsolutePositionManager function block. 2. Delete the variable of Data Type AbsolutePositionManager that was created when the function block was added. 3. Recompile the project. Note: This error can also be caused by any user library that is included and contains retained variables. How is the "false" port of the timer block used? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The timer block has two ports and is considered an operation state block. The "True" port is output only when the timer has completed its time out, and ready to transfer to the next block (or state). The "False" port is output before time out. The false port must be looped back to the input of the timer block to remain within the timer state. If the state is changed (ie - if another state block is executed), the timer action will hault until that timer state is re-entered. For that reason, the false port should not be used to perform other actions or execute other blocks, while the timer is counting. The timer block should be considered as a "Pause" state utility. If an application requires different actions based on time (for example, jogging at a given speed for five seconds before increasing to a faster speed), a manual timer can be created using the "mTime" system variable. How is task sharing accomplished in the SMC controllers? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The SMC controllers can execute up to four tasks (also called threads) at one time. In general, each task has equal priority, and each task (program) will run one LINE at a time. The task execution can be manipulated using "task pausing" and "task hogging". Pausing a task is accomplished by using "trip points" in the program, such as "after move" (AM), "after time" (AT), or "after input" (AI) commands. These commands temporarily pause the program until a certain condition is met. For example, the command "AI -1" will pause the task until input 1 goes low. During this time, the other thread will continue to execute, but the "paused" thread will wait. In addition, a thread can also be completely halted by using the HX command. Hogging a thread is accomplished by putting multiple commands on a single line. Each LINE will execute fully, regardless of the number of commands on that line. Individual commands are separated by semicolons. Each line can have up to 80 characters. How is integer division accomplished when using MotionWorks+? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: MotionWorks+ software uses C/IEEE standard of performing mathematical functions. When an integer is divided by another integer, the result is an integer. The same holds true if integer division is performed as part of a greater operation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Example 1: PosFloat= (60/75) * mPosition_Actual "mPosition_Actual" is a floating point number and "PosFloat" is a floating point variable. It would be expected that "PosFloat= (60/75) * mPosition_Actual" would return 0.8 * mPosition_Actual, but MotionWorks+ evaluates the integer pair (60/75) as an integer (0), so the result is also 0. To make this equation work correctly, the equation that must be used is "PosFloat = (60.0/75.0) * mPosition_Actual". ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Example 2: Distance_Float = Distance / Conversion Variables "Distance" and "Conversion" are both integers, and the variable "Distance_Float" is a floating point variable. "Distance_Float = Distance / Conversion" will evaluate as integers, with the result being the integer result of the division stored as a float. If Distance=21 and Conversion=4, the result of this division will be 5 instead of the expected 5.25. To make this equation work properly, the integer variables must be converted to floating point values BEFORE the division. The correct equation would be "Distance_Float = (Distance * 1.0) / (Conversion * 1.0)." It is important to use the floating point number 1.0 in the equation, and not the integer 1. If the position error ever exceeds this value, the SGDH will fault with alarm A.D0. The units for Pn505 are 256 Reference Units [256 R.U.]. To set Pn505, convert the maximum position error desired to R.U. and divide by 256, rounding to the nearest integer Example: The reference unit (R.U.) has been set to 0.001mm and the user desires a max following error of 10mm. 10mm = 10,000 R.U. Pn505 = 10,000 R.U./256 = 39 [256 R.U.] (rounded) The R.U. represents the positioning resolution of the controller; the distance the machine moves when 1 pulse is received from the controller. The R.U. is set based on the ratio of two parameters that define the number of controller pulses and encoder counts that represent the same distance. How is automatic (self) configuration performed on an MP-2300? Posted Date: 12/19/2006 Answer: Self-configuration can be executed by either turning the power ON with the CNFG and INIT switches ON, or it can be executed from MotionWorks (MPE720). The procedure for executing self-configuration using the CNFG and INIT switches is shown below. The allocated I/O register numbers may change when self-configuration is executed, if modules are not in the same slot as originally configured. Self-configuration eliminates the need to make settings for Module definitions, making it possible to perform startup work easily and quickly for the MP2300 system. Optional Modules are recognized and definition files are generated automatically. Input registers and output registers are automatically allocated to I/O. Allocation is performed in ascending order from the Module with the lowest option slot number. The lowest slot number is nearest the CPU (The CPU is considered slot #0). For networks, such as Mechatrolink and DeviceNet, information about the station configuration is collected and definition files are generated automatically. How is an MP920's SVA servo module initially set up to ensure successful automatic reading of an absolute encoder motor? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: The following steps outline how to successfully set up an MP920's SVA module to read an Absolute Encoder Motor: 1) The value fixed parameter number 8, "Number of feedback pulses per rotation", must be the same as the Pn201 value (PG Divider) in the Servopack. This ensures proper absolute position calculation in the MP920. 2) The Servopack must be wired exactly as shown in the MP920's Motion module manual or use Yaskawa's pre-wired cables (SIEZ-C887-2.5). This ensures proper transmission of the absolute data. 3) If the Servopack has the Parameter, Pn000.0 = 1, for reversal of positive direction, then fixed Parameter #4 (Absolute Encoder Rotation Direction) of the SVA module must be set to "negative". If Pn000.0 = 0 (factory default) then Fixed Parameter #4 must be at its factory default: "positive". 4) In order to have the SVA automatically read the Absolute Encoder on power up, bit 6 of fixed Parameter 14, "FUNCTIONS" must be left at factory default of OFF (0.) In addition to this setting, the MP920 and Servopack control power must come up at the same time. If they do not come up at the same time the "J" warning will display on the SVA module. If a read via application program is desired, the bit 6 of fixed parameter is set to ON (1) and the read is initiated by the application program. 5) The use of a Sigma II Servopack (SGDH) requires bit 9 of fixed Parameter 14, "FUNCTIONS" to be ON (1) or "enabled". Click on the + sign to the right of the Auxiliary IP label. The + sign becomes an X and a 2 fields are created, one for the auxiliary IP address and one for the subnet mask.
