	In SigmaWin+ Trace, what is the difference between position error, position amplifier error, and motor-load position error? Posted Date: 05/23/2018 Answer: Position error is the difference between the position reference value and the actual position. Position amplifier error is the difference between the position reference value and the actual position after electronic gear conversion. Motor-load position error is the difference between the feedback position of the motor encoder and the feedback load position of the external encoder for fully-closed loop control. Posted Date: 03/07/2014 Answer: This FAQ describes the required amplifier parameters settings for enabling and operating the polarity detection feature for hall-less operation of Sigma-5 linear motor systems. The polarity detection function detects the magnetic polarity and stores the phase data in the ServoPack relative to the linear scale. This detection routine is initiated automatically the first time a ServoON command is received from the host controller after initial power up of the servo system. 	Do you need to have the Control Power on in order to use the Dynamic Braking features of the Sigma-5 Servopack? Posted Date: 03/06/2014 Answer: If the Control Power is turned off before the Servopack receives the SV_OFF command, then the stopping method will vary by the Servopack model. These models will stop their motors by coasting in this scenario: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D. These models will stop their motors by using the dynamic brake in this scenario: All other Servopacks except: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D. If the Main Power is turned off before the Servopack receives the SV_OFF command then the servomotor will be stopped by use of the dynamic brake functionality. If you wish to have the servomotor coast to a stop when the Main Power circuit or the Control Power circuit is turned off before the SV_OFF command is received, then you will have to use an external method to disconnect the UVW phases to the motor in this scenario. If the SV_OFF command is received before the Main Power circuit and the Control Power circuit are turned off then the stopping method can be controlled by parameters in the Servopack (PN001). 	Does Yaskawa offer software for selecting the best servomotor for a given application? Posted Date: 04/15/2015 Answer: Yaskawa provides a software package called SigmaSelect that can be used to select the best size rotary or linear servomotor for an application. SigmaSelect is very flexible and allows a wide variety of applications to be sized. After the motor has been properly sized, SigmaSelect will also guide the selection of other parts, such as the servopack, cables, and accessories. SigmaSelect is available at no cost. 	Does the Sigma-5 have a function to reduce position dither when holding position? Posted Date: 07/01/2009 Answer: The Sigma-5 vibration suppression function can suppress vibrations as low as 1 to 100 Hz generated by sources such as the machine base vibrating. The anti-resonance control adjustment function (Fn204) can reduce excitation of frequencies from 100 - 1,000 Hz. Vibration suppression combined with high encoder resolution results in very low position dithering especially during standstill. 	Can an SGMJV-08A motor be driven by SGDV-2R8F 100V drive? Posted Date: 03/03/2015 Answer: The SGDV-2R8F, 100V input amplifier does not have enough bus capacitance to sustain rapid acceleration and to maintain acceptable ripple current level in such mismatch combination. Under-voltage alarm may occur during rapid acceleration. Further, the bus capacitance isn't designed to absorb excess regen during rapid deceleration. This may cause over-voltage alarms. Using in this manner will degrade the life of the bus capacitors, and may cause premature failure. This combination is not recommended. 	Can an MPiec Series Controller be programmed to measure the length a product passing on a conveyor? Posted Date: 03/10/2014 Answer: It is possible to use one sensor to capture the encoder position of the motor as it detects the leading and trailing edges of the product as it passes below the sensor. One will need to wire the sensor output to two separate high speed latch inputs on the Servopack and change the polarity of the active signal for one of them. Then use the MC_TouchProbe function block to capture the encoder positions. Finally, subtract the two captured positions to calculate the result. See the attached document for details.
