How are pLimit_PositioningError and sPosition_CompletionWindow used to control positioning accuracy? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The goal in a positioning system is to get from Point A to Point B (see attached SmplMove.pdf). But how close to Point B must the system be? Also, how much deviation is allowed on the way to point B? MotionWorks+ has a couple of system parameters that can help the programmer manage this. As with all of the system parameters, these are described in the "Programming Concept" section in your MotionWorks+ software manual. pLimit_PositioningError: This parameter is the maximum allowable following error that the servo will be allowed to accumulate before an alarm is generated. This can occur during any part of the move. Usually, the maximum following error occurs during acceleration. If the following error exceeds this value, an A.9F alarm will be generated, and the system bit mPosition_Error_Exceeded will be set to "1". Even if a system needs to be very precise at the end of the move, the maximum error during the move will be much higher in most instances, depending on the acceleration. Remember to set the value of pLimit_PositioningError sufficiently high. This value will have NO EFFECT on the final position precision. sPosition_CompletionWindow: This parameter defines the maximum distance allowed between the final target and the servo for a move to be considered complete. If an index move with the "wait for completion" property set to "true" is used, program execution will be stalled until the position of the motor is at the commanded position, plus or minus this window. Setting this value larger just means that the final target need not be as close to the target before execution continues. The default value of sPosition_CompletionWindow is 0.0 user units, meaning that the motor has to be EXACTLY at position before execution can continue. With the default tuning gains in the amplifier being so low, it is often difficult to achieve this level of precision, and the program will appear to "freeze" on the index block. In reality, the program is waiting for the position to get within the window, something that the tuning gains are not high enough to accomplish. You may even find that a small push into position will cause the move to complete and the program to continue. Neither of these parameters will determine how closely a system will follow the command, only how the system will react to the error. The following error during the move and the precision at the end of the move are always determined by the tuning of the system. If the system is generating A.9F errors due to excessive position error, or if the program is hanging while waiting for a move to complete, then these are the parameters to check. If these parameters are set appropriately, then the tuning needs to be improved. How are Modbus/TCP update rates set when the MPiec controller is configured as the Modbus/TCP Master? How are cam tables organized? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The first point in the cam table is the number of master/follower pairs in the table. The subsequent points are the master and follower data points. If any master position is not found in the data table, the value will be interpolated from the nearest points. This interpolation is linear, so any "curved" sections of the cam table are actually made up from several small "straight-line" segments. Hbb fault occurs with the H1,H2 and HC jumpered, what else could the issue be? Posted Date: 08/28/2012 Answer: A Hbb fault can be caused by improper use of the drives (S1-S8)digital inputs. If a customer is using the drives internal power supply and uses SC as the ground, this will cause a Hbb fault. Please use SN when using the drives internal voltage in sinking mode. (See attached.) Given a Sigma Mini SGMM-A1C312, What does the "C" stand for and what cables are used on this motor? Posted Date: 08/19/2004 Answer: SGMM-A1C312 is a non-CE rated version of the Sigma Mini motor. During a generator to line power switchover, Uv1 results. Restart is not attempted. A manual reset is required for drives running motors. The transfer takes less than a second. Enabling Power loss ride while CPU is active, causes a baseblock, a hard stop of the firing mechanisms to the motor. Do you need to have the Control Power on in order to use the Dynamic Braking features of the Sigma-5 Servopack? These models will stop their motors by coasting in this scenario: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D. These models will stop their motors by using the dynamic brake in this scenario: All other Servopacks except: SGDV-330A, -470A, -550A, -590A, -780A, -280D, -370D. If the Main Power is turned off before the Servopack receives the SV_OFF command then the servomotor will be stopped by use of the dynamic brake functionality. If you wish to have the servomotor coast to a stop when the Main Power circuit or the Control Power circuit is turned off before the SV_OFF command is received, then you will have to use an external method to disconnect the UVW phases to the motor in this scenario. If the SV_OFF command is received before the Main Power circuit and the Control Power circuit are turned off then the stopping method can be controlled by parameters in the Servopack (PN001). The instruction manuals for the drive explain this function in more detail. Use the following instructions to obtain write access for the drives described below: For the V7 drive: Parameter n001 controls the access to all of the parameters. A setting of "0" allows no parameters to be changed, while settings of "4" or '5' allow all parameters to be changed. Settings "1" through "3" are increments of the level of access allowed. However, the SGDH Sigma II amplifier is identical, except that the SGDH amplifier has a port on the side of the amplifier to interface with option cards such as the NS600 or MP940. If an imported machine (likely built in Asia) has an SGDM and needs a replacement amplifier, the SGDH can be used. It has exactly the same parameter set, runs exactly the same motors, and has exactly the same footprint. An expansion port protrudes 8mm from the side of the SGDH, but this is not a problem if the amplifiers were properly spaced (min. 10mm between amplifiers) in the cabinet. The part number for the SGDM amplifier follows this convention: SGDM-WWXYZ, where WW is the amplifier power rating (i.e. '04' for 400W or '55' for 5.5 kW), X is a letter determining input voltage (A= 200VAC, B=100VAC, D=400VAC), Y is the control code (usually 'D'), and Z is an optional revision level (usually either blank or 'A'). The replacement motor will be SGDH-wwxE, where ww is the same amplifier power rating and x is the same input voltage letter as the SGDM. Does Yaskawa offer Sigma II power and encoder cables rated for continuous flex? Posted Date: 06/24/2013 Answer: Yes. Many applications require cables that are more flexible than a standard cable. As a result, Yaskawa has introduced continuous flex rated cables for Sigma II motors up to 11kW (see attached document for complete cable specification summary for Sigma II). SGMAH and SGMPH motors feature continuous flex rated power and encoder cable assemblies as standard. For the larger SGMGH, SGMSH, and SGMUH motors typically installed in a static environment where physical movement of the motor is less likely, the standard cable remains a non-flex rated cable. Continuous flex rated cables are available for both power and encoder simply by specifying the 'CE' version of the cable [e.g., B1CE-03(A) instead of B1E-03(A)]. Continuous flex rated cable is manufactured to meet varying needs and requires proper application and installation to achieve the desired results. Testing methods vary by manufacturer, however, two key parameters are routinely published by cable manufacturers which can be used to calculate cable life (# of cycles) based on a design target of 10,000,000 cycles. They are: * Cable outside diameter (OD) * Minimum bending radius as a function of cable outside diameter (e.g., 10 X OD) If the minimum bend radius is too large, or a larger bend radius is acceptable, the effect on approximate cable life can be calculated as a function of the 10,000,000 cycle design target. The relationship between cable longevity and bending radius is non-linear. When calculating life cycle, the term "approximate maximum" is best suited to describe the resulting calculation. Use the following as a guideline for such calculations. 1) (Cable radius / Radius of Bend) x 100 = xx%. If xx% is less than 2%, the 10,000,000 cycle mark is approached. 2) Take the calculated xx% and calculate this ratio relative to the 2% design target. (2%) / (xx%) = Ratio of chosen bend radius relative to design target. 3) Multiply this ratio by 10,000,000 to calculate the approximate maximum number of cycles. Here is one example. Cable OD = 50mm. Minimum bending radius is 10 X OD. This means the minimum bend radius is 500 mm. This may be too large. Assume bend radius of only 400mm is possible. Thus, (25 mm / 400 mm) x 100% = 6.25%. Does the torque limit (sLimit_Torque) need to be set on the MP940? Posted Date: 05/02/2001 Answer: Properly setting the torque limit is a very important step in commissioning an MP940 system. The MP940 requires this information to be set to match the data set in the servopack controller. If the torque limit is not properly set (ie - if the values in servopack and MP940 do not match), the MP940 will indicate an error displaying an A.9F alarm. This condition can be diagnosed by observing two error parameters from within MotionWorks+: "mError_Parameter_Settable" variable bit in the MP940 will be on, and "mError_Parameter_Number" will be 3, that indicates the torque limit is set out of range. The proper torque limit can be calculated by using either "Sigma II Series Servo System User's Manual" or "Sigma II Servo System Product Catalog Supplement" to obtain the peak torque and rated torque values for the motor. Divide the peak torque value by the rated torque, and then multiply that quotient by -10000. This is the setting for "sLimit_Torque" (it must be entered as a negative number). (For MotionWorks users, sLimit_Torque is the same as OWC002 register.) EXAMPLE: Motor SGMGH-20ACA61 motor has a peak torque of 254 in-lb and a rated torque of 102 in-lb. If you divide 254 by 102, the result is 2.49. Multiply this value by -10000 and the result is -24900. In MotionWorks+, enter a value of -24900 for the system variable "sTorque_Limit". When using the MP940 with a servopack, this value will always be a negative number. Does the Modbus port on the V7 Drive need a termination resistor? Posted Date: 10/27/2005 Answer: Only the last drive (receiver) on the bus needs its 120-ohm termination resistor connected. Dipswitch SW2 section 1 connects the termination resistance between the R+ and R- terminals. The ohmeter should read about 120 ohms across the R+ and R- terminals. If very high or infinite, then no resistor is connected - check SW2 and test the ohmeter. If 60 ohms then two are connected; 40 ohms then three are connected; etc. Again, check SW2 in all the connected drives to make sure only the last drive on the network has a 120 ohm terminating resistor closed by SW2. Note: Earlier versions of the V7 Drive were named GPD 315/V7, GPD 315 or VS Mini V7.
