Are there any third party HMI Manufacturers that have written Memobus Drivers for the Yaskawa MP9xx products? Posted Date: 04/11/2006 Answer: Most of the major HMI manufacturers, including Exor, Red Lion, Cimrex, Eason, and TCP, make HMI products with drivers for the MP9xx product line. In general, we recommend calling the manufacturer directly (or visit their website) to see if the Memobus driver (for communication to the MP940, MP930 and MP920 products) is available. Are there any special setup considerations concerning machine vibration when using Junma? Posted Date: 08/15/2011 Answer: Users are not required to do any special tuning for machine vibration, because the Junma detects the vibration and performs automatic tuning. If any unusual noise occurs while the machine is running, the detected vibration may be different from the actual vibration. Increase the Reference Filter Setting (FIL) by one, and then return to the previous setting. Junma will now be able to do automatic tuning again. Are there any special considerations when using an absolute encoder? Posted Date: 06/05/2002 Answer: In most situations, the absolute encoder will work with no parameter changes necessary. However, in some circumstances (when the application has a gear reduction and moves in one direction only), it may be necessary to change Pn205, the Multi-Turn Limit Setting. If Pn205 is not set correctly, the application may seem to change it's position at power-up. This is due to the "rollover" of the multi-turn counter on the absolute encoder. Please read the attached document for more information and instructions on setting Pn205. Note: This applies to all products using an absolute encoder motor. Hence, this also applies when using Application Modules such as: NS600, NS300, NS500, MP940. Are there any known remedies to stop a vertical axis from dropping when the DP (Define Position) command is used? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: Yes. Background: A vertical axis with only PID gains will usually require a steady state error always present which is causing enough torque to keep the motor in place. This is required to counter act gravity. This is not ideal. When the DP command executes, it sets the current position equal to the commanded position, which momentarily causes zero following error. When there is zero following error, there is zero torque output, so the motor is likely to drop a bit. It will usually return shortly after the PID detects the following error buildup caused by the drop. Solution: Determine how much voltage it takes to hold the vertical axis against gravity. Use the TT command (several times) or scope the torque to determine the average torque required just to hold the axis in place. Once this value is determined, use the OF command to set the offset value and burn it in. (BN) The OF voltage is always applied, and the PID loop derived command voltage is added to this offset. This will improve the overall operation, because the PID loop will not have to counter act gravity, the OF will do it. Also, since the OF will hold the servo, the DP command should not cause the axis to drop. Are there any guidelines on how to read and write NS300 or NS500 Parameters using the basic Master-Slave I/O operation? Posted Date: 07/25/2005 Answer: Yes, but two important points must be stressed: 1. The application programmer must remember that handshaking is required to confirm the data was received and the operation is complete before continuing on to the next command. Relative to the master device CPU, Devicenet and Profibus are non-synchronized field bus networks. Although the NS300 or NS500 devices look like simple I/O to the master, a read or write parameter operation is internal to the NS300 or NS500 device it will take some time to complete. Handshaking and confirmation logic of these time dependant operations are required. 2. Second, depending on the master, the word size that the application code works with may be larger than the command code or data being sent or retrieved. Take as an example the AB Control Logix family of PLCs. If the application programmer is using the Control Logix as a master to an NS300, he or she must remember the word size the PLC code uses are 32-bit in length. The command to the NS300 is only 8-bits and the data may be, depending on the operation, 32-bit. Below are links to two documents. The HMI Summary.pdf document reviews several machine control solutions using an HMI and the Sigma II Indexer application module(s). Up to 16 JUSP-NS600 Sigma II Indexer application modules can be connected to a single HMI via an RS232, RS422, or RS485 serial network (only use RS232 for single-axis applications). In general, any HMI that can communicate using a 7-bit ASCII protocol will work with the Indexer. Typically, the HMI manufacturer (such as Exor or Red Lion) will need to provide a driver in order to communicate with the Indexer . Yaskawa has performed extensive testing on Exor HMIs. The attached files highlight the core of a flying shear application that is the cam calculations used to smoothly adjust the motor from one cut to the next, providing the optimum profile for the fastest possible machine speed. The key is the Recalc subroutine, which calculates the straight-line profile based on the machine system properties, and superimposes an S Curve profile on the straight line in the portion of the move where the cutter is not in contact with the product. The Excel file provides a quick way to understand the motion profile based on the values entered for the application. By setting these same values in MW+, a wide range of scenarios can be accommodated. It is possible to change the machine cycle (product length) at run time and recalculate the profile for a new product. For inputs, this means they float high (Logic 1 in software as checked with the "TI" command) until they are pulled to 0 VDC by an external source. For outputs, this means that they float high when they are off and no current flows (Logic 0 in software when checked with the _OP command). When activated, the output point becomes 0 VDC, causing current flow through the output, which has +24 VDC applied to the other side of the output.. The attachment below, shows the wiring diagram. Only one pin is available for +24VDC and one for 24V GND on the CN5 connector. Since this power input supplies both the inputs and outputs, there is only one way to wire it, and the outputs must be sinking type. These inputs expect 5.3mA at a minimum to activate the internal circuitry. Outputs are only sink type. The estop output is the exception; it is a dry contact N.C. relay output. Each output is open collector type and when set (true / on / low) it will complete the circuit to the power supply return. These outputs can sink 200mA if all are set at once, or 600mA if only one is on at a time. Are motor power and encoder cables for Sigma II interchangable with the cables for Sigma I? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: The motor power cable assemblies are interchangeable in only two cases: 1) Between SGMG & SGMGH series motors 2) Between SGMS & SGMSH series motors. The connectors on the SGM and SGMAH look similar, but they are not the same. The SGMP series motor uses a MS style connector, however, the MS part number (size) is unique and not used elsewhere. The SGMPH series motor uses Interconnectron connectors which are not compatible with any other YEA offering. The encoder cables are NEVER interchangable between the Sigma I and Sigma II series. Bottom Line: When upgrading to SGMGH or SGMSH motors from their Sigma I counterparts, hang on to the old power cables...they make great spares! Are example application programs available for the EXOR HMI when using an MP940 Machine Controller? These programs can also be used as program templates with only a few minor adjustments. Advantages of using these programs include reduced start-up & debug time, faster integration, simple operation testing, and improved programming structure. Are common multimeters able to measure the correct output voltage of the VFD? Posted Date: 04/01/2014 Answer: An inverter provides a PWM output voltage waveform. Most digital multimeters (DMM) measure the peak voltage and calculate the average. In order to obtain an accurate output voltage reading a "true RMS" meter with selectable low pass filter is needed. Other reliable and accurate instruments include an oscilloscope. Many true RMS meters display readings 20 to 30% higher than the drive's controller display as most of true RMS digital multimeters have wide bandwidth. These multimeters are measuring the carrier frequency/switching frequency generated by VFDs. The low pass filter (LPF) is designed to help block unwanted voltages above 1 kHz when measuring AC voltage or AC frequency. The LPF can improve measurement performance on composite sine waves that are typically generated by inverters and variable frequency motor drives. An SMC program does not execute or abnormally terminates and there are no messages displayed on YTerm's terminal window. What can be done to troubleshoot this condition? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: First, make sure that the program was not designed to terminate after a preset number of loops. Monitoring some key system variables should help uncover the problem. For example, if the abort input goes low, the program will terminate. The abort input can be monitored by typing MG_AB in the terminal window of YTerm. A response value of "0" means that the abort input is active. Another reason that the program will terminate is if it executes an EN statement, and the stack (ZS) is zero. The application program will have no choice but to terminate in the event of a command error, and no #CMDERR special label routine exists in the program. System variables to monitor include: TC1 - Tell Error Code - This clears after each interrogation MG _XQn - The line number currently executing, where n is the thread number. MG_SCx - Stop Code, where x is the axis in question MG_TB - Tell Status Byte MG_ED - Returns the last line that had an error. If accessible, YTerm provides a screen that encompasses all of the above mentioned troubleshooting tools. A Bypass Cabinet trips in "FB08" only when in Bypass, not in drive mode.
