What is the difference between the "I" and "J" extended I/O options for the SMC-2000?

With the SMC-2000, both the "I" and the "J" options are extended I/O options that add 40 inputs and 42 outputs to the controller. The difference between the two options is the electrical specifications of the outputs. The "I" option uses "dry contact" outputs. These outputs are capable of switching any voltage up to 200VDC (max 0.5A, 10W). Each group of seven outputs has its own common reference, so multiple voltages can be used.

The "J" option uses solid-state output. The outputs are all 24VDC (100mA per point), but because they are solid state, there are no mechanical parts to arc and/or wear out. If a system uses mostly 24VDC outputs (this is very common), Yaskawa recommends the "J" option for it's longer life. If there is only one or two outputs that are higher voltage or AC voltage, it is best to use relays to control these outputs.

Both the "I" and "J" options use two 50-pin high-density connectors for wiring. This is the same connector at the I/O connector of an SGDH or SGDB amplifier, so the same terminal block connector can be used. This is part number JUSP-TA50P.

LCD:
Abbreviation of liquid crystal display, a type of display used in digital watches, many portable computers, and industrial HMI products. All of the EXOR HMI Products have LCD screens. LCD displays utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. Each crystal, therefore, is like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through or blocking the light.

Monochrome LCD images usually appear as blue or dark gray images on top of a grayish-white background. Color LCD displays use two basic techniques for producing color: Passive matrix is the less expensive of the two technologies. The other technology, called thin film transistor (TFT) or active-matrix, produces color images that are as sharp as traditional CRT displays, but the technology is expensive. Recent passive-matrix displays using new CSTN and DSTN technologies produce sharp colors rivaling active-matrix displays.
Most LCD screens used in notebook computers are backlit to make them easier to read.

STN:
A technique for improving LCD display screens by twisting light rays. In addition to normal supertwist displays, there also exist double supertwist and triple supertwist displays. In general, the more twists, the higher the contrast.
Supertwist displays are also known as supertwist nematic (STN) displays.

TFT
Abbreviation of thin film transistor, a type of LCD flat-panel display screen, in which each pixel is controlled by from one to four transistors. The TFT technology provides the best resolution of all the flat-panel techniques, but it is also the most expensive. TFT screens are sometimes called active-matrix LCDs

What is the difference between MODBUS and Memobus?

Answer:

The Memobus protocol is almost identical to the Modbus protocol. All of the function code calls are the same. The difference between the two protocols lies in the way the data is organized in the registers.

16-bit words are handled the same in both protocols, but addressing individual bits in a 16-bit word is accomplished differently. 32-bit long integer and floating point numbers are also handled differently by the two protocols.

The attached document provides a more in-depth comparison between the two protocols. If a complete specification is needed, it can be obtained by calling Yaskawa at (800) YASKAWA option 42 (Publication: SIE-C815-13.60E).

Both cables are 50 pin with 3M connectors at one end and pigtails at the other end, and are interchangable with each other.

JEPMC-W6060-xx cable:
1. This cable is typically selected when specifying MP920 amd MP2x00 System Components, when connecting external I/O to a module. (SVA-01 CN5, DO-01/DI-01/PO-01/CNTR-01 CN1 & CN2 / LIO-05 and LIO-05)

What is the difference between a YS-13 and YS-15 cable?

The YS-15 Cable is recommended when using the MP940.

The YS-15 cable, also known as a Programming Cable, is currently used to connect between a PC and the MP940 via RS232 (port#1 on the MP940). The YS-15 cable supports all revisions of the MP940 product. The YS-13 cable is an older style cable which was used on MP940 versions A03 and lower (it is not possible to communicate to an MP940 versions A05 or greater using a YS-13 cable).

Firmware Versions A03 (of the MP940) and lower only supported two wirre RS422/485. Firmware versions A05 and above now support both two and four wire. Hence, CTS and RTS are lines now supported in the MP940. The YS-15 cable loops back these lines to allow communications when the PC does not use the CTS/RTS lines.

What is the current rating for the Run and Fault output contacts on a GPD 515/G5?

Answer:

It is a 1Amp at a maximum voltage of 250 VAC or 30VDC. The 30VDC rating applies to inductive loads such as relays and contactors. DC coils draw more of an arc when the contact opens than AC coils and arcing could eventually lead to premature failures of these contacts. Adding a reversed biased diode to suppress this arc across the DC coil is recommended in all cases. If these outputs are being used by the customer for Non-Inductive loads, then the 1Amp rating is still fine at 48VDC.

What is the cause of error code "Error in Native Code Generation" when attempting to compile a MotionWorks IEC program?

Answer:

There can be multiple causes for the "Error in Native Code Generation" but they are often caused by errors in the allocation of variables in the MP3000iec controllers. Detailed information can be found in the attached document (TN.MPIEC.01).

The error can also be caused by incompatibility between libraries and the MotionWorks IEC software. For example, Yaskawa's Cam Toolbox v2.4 and later require MotionWorks IEC v3.x to compile correctly. The MotionWorks IEC v2.x user would either need to use an older version of the toolbox (v2.3 or earlier, which may not have all functions required for the application) or upgrade MotionWorks IEC v3.x.

To fix this alarm, turn the INIT switch off and reboot the controller.

What is the best way to correctly use the RETURN instruction? We had some issues in some cases when the Functions blocks get stuck, or needs an additional trigger.

Answer:

The RETURN causes the controller to stop executing code in a function or function block POU, and immediately go back to the POU that called the function. This is good for execution efficiency, but can cause problems if not used correctly. It's efficient because the code below the RETURN becomes dormant. (Not scanned)

Never allow the RETURN to execute if any code below the RETURN is still "Active." Active means an Execute input for a function block is high, or a function inside the function is "Busy," or an R_TRIG has a high input, basically any code that will become confused after "sleeping." For example, if a RETURN takes place while an MC_Move_Absolute.Execute is high, MC_MoveAbsolute will not notice when the execute logic goes low. Next time the function is executed, MC_MoveAbsolute will not notice the rising edge for execute, because to the MC_MoveAbsolute, it has always been high.

For examples, look at the code used in nearly all of Yaskawa's Toolbox functions. We use a technique that only allows the RETURN to take place if many conditions are met.

What is the ambient temperature derating (L8-12 setting)?

The output current capacity and the overload capabilities of the inverter depend on the ambient temperature. The higher the ambient temperature the lower is the maximum output current because the heat dissipation becomes more difficult.

The overload protection function is active only when the current is above the maximum continuous output current level (112% of inverter rated current). At ambient temperatures higher than 45°C (40°C for IP20) this level will be lowered.

The ambient temperature can be set in parameter L8-12. The setting range is 45°C to 60°C.
Because the inverter has no IP00/20 detection the set value for L8-12 must be 5° higher than the real ambient temperature at IP20 units.

The air gap or the air gap tolerance is a fixed value and is solely the function of the mechanical structure i.e. bearings and frame (not a function of the attraction force between the magnet track and the motor coil). What is speed feedback compensation and when should it be used?

Answer:

Speed feedback compensation is typically applied when there is mechanical resonance in the system and the speed loop gain cannot be raised to achieve good response, such as shortened settling time in positioning. It allows the increase of speed reference gain with the speed feedback gain kept low by adjusting the speed feedback compensation value. Because the speed feedback gain is low, there is no vibration added to the resonance part of the machine, and good response is achieved due to the higher speed reference gain.

The speed feedback compensation loop uses the speed feedback as the input. Using a proprietary algorithm, this signal is filtered to reduce the effect of disturbance and phase-lag compensation. The output is called the compensated feedback speed. This output, rather than the normal speed feedback signal may be selected via Pn110.1 for use in the speed control loop. Speed feedback compensation level, parameter Pn111, adjusts the gain of the speed compensation loop.

Please note that with speed feedback compensation enabled, disturbance response is degraded because speed feedback gain is reduced. Also, the inertia ratio in Pn103 must be correctly set for the speed feedback compensation to function properly.

Answer:

Should the digital operator require replacement on a V7 NEMA 4 drive, it's recommended to replace both the cover and digital operator board (sold separately).
This is because the operator overlay sheet is applied directly to the cover but the digital operator board is removable from the back of the cover.

- The NEMA 4 cover part number for 0.2kW - 0.7kW drives is UUX000247.
- The NEMA 4 cover part number for 1.5kW - 3.7kW drives is UUX000248.

- The NEMA 4 digital operator board part number for 0.2kW - 3.7kW drives is CDR001106.

The EXOR Touch Screen series HMIs - eTOP10,11,12,30 currently ship with externally removable 8 Meg SSFDC SmartMedia cards already installed. 8 Meg is the largest memory capacity currently available with the current version of Designer for these HMIs (part #: MEM-08) - future development will allow increased memory capacity.

The memory card stores the user program, and can be a medium for storing/transfering the Boot, Firmware, and MIPs code which operates the HMI. The advantage of memory card allows the user to easily maintain/upgrade the HMI program & firmware once the HMI has been installed in the field.

What is Analog Resistive Touch Screen Technology?

Analog Resistive Touch Screens are transparent data input devices commonly used with Industrial HMIs (such as EXOR), to provide a user friendly method of human-computer interaction. These screens can be operated with the touch of a finger (with or without gloves) or a stylus. Touch pressure from a stylus or finger causes electrical contact between top and bottom circuits thus activating the programmed object (minimum object size is based upon programmed object size - typical 16x8 pixel). Analog Resistive touch screens differ from grids in that they are not restricted to a minimum activating stylus size. which means when an operator touches an object on the screen, swiping is not required to overcome grid voids.

Durability testing has proven greater than 3 Million activations.

What is an A.F50 Alarm?

A.F50 is a Servomotor disconnection alarm.

Cause:
The detected torque is 10% or less, but the commanded torque reference is 90% or more for 10ms.  This alarm is not activated in cases of BB due to hardware issues. In those cases, an A.F6 or A.b3 is generated instead.

Corrective Actions:
Check the servomotor power line wiring.
Tighten the motor power connection.
Replace the servo amplifier.

What is an A.E7 alarm and how is it cleared?

The A.E7 is an alarm from the Sigma2 (SGDH-xxyE) Servopack that is missing an option card such as an MP940 or NS300 If an amplifier previously had an option card attached, and it is missing at power up, this alarm will occur and persist until the following is performed.

Using a Hand Operator or the Built in Operator on the Servopack, the proper procedure is as follows:

1) Execute an "Initialize Parameters to Factory Default" Operation :Fn005 (Section 7.2.9 in Sigma2 manual)
2) Execute an "Alarm History Trace Back Clear" Operation: Fn006 (Section 7.2.5 in Sigma2 manual)
3) Execute an "Option Unit Detection Reset" Operation: Fn014 (Section 7.2.13 in Sigma2 manual)

What is an A.E5 alarm?

Answer:

An A.E5 (AE5) alarm is a Mechatrolink Synchronization Error between an MP920 or MP930 controller (using SVB modules) and an NS-100. Every mechatrolink communications cycle, the controller increments Watch Dog Timer data (WDT). If the expected data does not match with the data in the NS-100 module, then it is known that the transmission packet also did not get written to/from local register memory (hence the node did not get updated with new deterministic data). Since this is a deterministic control system and data must be transfered, this will flag an A.E5 alarm and it will display on the SGDH LED display.

To reset this alarm, the controller must perform the alarm clear sequence TWICE.

What is an A.09 alarm?

An A.09 alarm occurs for SGDH servo amplifiers modified with the Y213 modification when the maximum encoder output frequency is exceeded (Y213 modification applies to a linear motor application). The maximum frequency is 12.8MHz. The frequency is calculated at power-up based on the motor peak speed (Pn384), the linear scale pitch (Pn280), and the PG dividing ratio (Pn281). To reduce the output frequency, either decrease the motor peak speed or decrease the PG dividing ratio. Un010 will display the setting limit at which the frequency will not exceed the maximum (12.8MHz) for either the motor peak speed or the PG dividing ratio. The limit value can by chosen by parameter Pn080.3.

What is a "DWG" (drawing)?

"DWG" is an abbreviation of "drawing", which is a thread of ladder logic. Drawings form the ladder program for an MP9xx controller. Each drawing can contain a maximum of 500 steps. There are 3 different types of drawings:

1. DWG.A- Executed only once at power up
2. DWG.H- Executed once every High-Speed scan cycle (this cycle time is set by High-Speed scan time)
3. DWG.L- Executed once every Low-Speed scan cycle (this cycle time is set by Low-Speed scan time)

They are organized like a family of three generations. A parent drawing (i.e. 'H') is automatically executed by the CPU. Child generations (i.e. 'H01') are executed by being called by the parent drawing with a 'SEE' instruction. Grandchild generations (i.e. 'H01.01') are called by child drawings in the same way. Only a direct descendant of the same family can be called. A parent drawing can not call a grandchild drawing directly, and a drawing can not call drawings of another family (i.e. DWG.H01 can not call DWG.H02.01).

Each drawing family will be executed every scan cycle. If there are too many steps in the family of drawings to execute in the allotted time, an error will occur. Increasing the appropriate scan time will prevent this situation.

What impedance is the output reactor option?

The output reactor option is between 3% and 5% impedance. Packages using the heavy duty rating with the output reactor option will have its reactor closer to 3% impedance. Normal duty packages using the reactor option will have its reactor closer to 5% impedance. Due to the variable three-level output technology of the matrix drive even a 3% impedance reactor is sufficient when required for long lead length applications. Recommendations for output filtering (AC reactor, dV/dt fitlers, and sine fitlers) are the same for the matrix drive as they are for any other two-level drive (A1000, P1000, V1000, etc.). See AR.AFD.05 for recommendations regarding long motor leads.

There are four options.

1) Use two pigtail (flying lead) cables:
SGDH (1CN): JZSP-CKI01-XX(A)
NS600 (4CN): CKI-NS600-XX
Note: XX is cable length in meters: Lengths available are 01, 02, or 03 meters.

2) Use two terminal blocks with connector cable assembly:
SGDH (1CN): JUSP-TA50P
NS600 (4CN): JUSP-TA36P
Cable length for each of the above units are 0.5 meters. The terminal blocks make wiring to the host controller quick and easy.

3) Create cables for both units using two separate connector kits:
SGDH (1CN): JZSP-CKI9
NS600 (4CN): DP9420007

4) Use cable assembly with D-SUB output for a single, 3rd party I/O break board. The part number for this option is CKI-NS600D-XX. This cable is configured as a "Y" or "two headed" cable. There are three options. Option #3 is NEW in 2001:

Use pigtail (flying lead) cables. Part number for this option is JZSP-CKI01-XX(A), where XX is cable length in meters: Lengths available are 01, 02, or 03 meters. This option requires two cables to configure a system; one cable for the 1CN on the SGDH and another for the I/O port on MP940.

Use terminal block + connector cable assembly. Part number for this option is JUSP-TA50P. Cable length is 0.5 meters. This option requires two JUSP-TA50P's to configure a system. The terminal blocks make wiring to the host controller quick and easy.

Use cable assembly with D-SUB output for 3rd party. Part number for this option is CKI-MP940D-XX (rev 2). Lengths available are 0.5, 01, 02, or 03 meters. This is a NEW option introduced in Sept. of 2001. This cable is configured as a "Y" or "two headed" cable. One leg of the "Y" plugs into the amp's 1CN and the other into the I/O port on the MP940. What happens when switching to reverse while the motor is rotating forward (FWD=OFF, REV=ON)?

For standard settings, the drive will decelerate all the way to zero, and then accelerate into reverse.

Note: If the forward and reverse inputs are closed at the same time ffor more than 500ms the digital operator will blink EF. Once out of forward and reverse at same time motor will then continue to operate.

What happens if the STOP button on the Digital Operator is pressed, while the drive is being controlled remotely by START/STOP circuitry connected to the drives I/O terminal block? Can the drive be restarted locally?

Answer:

When the drive is stopped locally while running in two-wire control, the remote run command is never actually removed. This means there is a continuous remote run command that has been overridden by the Digital Operator stop command. In order to restart the drive, one of two things can be done. Either the main 230/480V drive input power can be cycled, or the remote run command can be removed and then reapplied.

There is an alternative, if cycling drive power or toggling the remote run is undesirable in the case above.

A recommended solution would be to install a local STOP switch at the drive, Install the normally closed STOP switch in series with the remote run contact and the two-wire start/stop terminal located on the drive. This way the drive can be stopped locally, and the run contact can be removed and reapplied right at the drive.

A blinking error message will appear (EF), and the motor will decelerate to stop. Note: If both the forward and reverse commands have been shut off, then the motor will restart.

When FWD and REV run commands are simultaneously input for over 500ms, the drive stops according to parameter n04.

What energizes (closes) and de-energizes (reopens) the "estop" relay in LEGEND-MC (SMC-3010)?

Answer:

The relay is the LEGEND-MC's dry contact output located on pins 25 and 50 of the 5CN port.

The following will de-energize (open) the relay:

1) The axis has a position error greater than the error limit. The error limit is set by using the command ER.
2) The reset line on the controller is held low or is being affected by noise.
3) There is a failure in the controller and the processor is resetting itself.
4) There is a failure in the output IC which drives the error signal.

Note that the most common cause of the relay operating is the following error.

Based on the conditions above, the relay will reclose:

1) The servo gets back into position so the position error is less than that set in the ER command.
2) The reset input is changed from low to high (disconnected.)
3) Processor reset is complete.
4) No recovery from this condition.

Finally, it is not possible to program the EStop relay to open.

There are 4 components to the SigmaLogic motion axis:

1. LogicWorks Configuration Utility
2. SigmaLogic embedded Software
3. SigmaLogic Firmware
4. Add-On Instructions (AOIs) for Rockwell RSLogix5000

The SigmaLogic unit will come with the Firmware and the embedded Software already installed. Updates will be found at the SigmaLogic product page at www.yaskawa.com/SigmaLogic . Answer:

DriveWizard requires installation of East Asian language support. To install, follow the procedure outlined below:

1. Open 'Regional and Language Options' from the Classic View of Control Panel.
2. On the 'Languages' tab in the 'Supplemental language support' group box, check the box labeled 'Install files for East Asian languages'.
3. Click OK on the 'Install Supplemental Language Support' message box.
4. Clicking OK or Apply on the 'Regional and Language Options' dialog will start the install process.
5. You will need the Windows XP installation CD during the install process; insert it into the CD-ROM drive. Click OK on the 'Insert Disk' message box. On the 'Files Needed' dialog, click Browse and select the i386 folder on the installation CD.
6. When the necessary files are copied, you will be prompted to reset the computer.

After the restart, Drive Wizard should start up without an error.

What does the “E2005 the field offset exceeds the limit” compile error mean?

Answer:

This error typically occurs when large User Defined Datatypes are declared. It means that at least one variable declaration exceeded the limit for Global Variables or a POU.  MotionWorks IEC will specify which variable caused it. The limit is 4MB for Global Variables and 4MB each POU Variable Worksheet. This limit does not mean that 4MB is the maximum size for all variable space however. The limit refers to the reference point (head address) where the variable is located. Any variables declared beyond the 4MB limit will cause this error. Placing the largest structure as the last variable declaration in the variable list typically permits the project to be complied without error.
