MotionWorks IEC

Overview

Through the use of Yaskawa's IEC61131-3 programming environment, MotionWorks IEC Express and MotionWorks IEC Pro enable programmers to take advantage of several standard programming languages within a single development package.

These languages work predictably and seamlessly with one another: Ladder Logic (perfect for digital sensory data representation), Structured Text (great for assignment of mathematical algorithms), and Function Block Diagrams (best suited for machine control). Variables and outputs can be referenced between different POUs (Programming Organization Units), providing the ideal automation development environment.

MotionWorks IEC is an essential part of Yaskawa’s achievement of Singular Control: the ability to interchangeably operate articulated robots, gantry robots, servo axes and variable frequency drives from a single motion controller, without the need to change your system’s operating code.

	If a variable has both an Initial Value and is marked as Retained, which value will the IEC application use after a Warm Start? What value will be used after a Cold Start? 	How can source code be stored onto an MP2600iec Controller? Posted Date: 12/10/2019 Answer: During the download process, selecting the checkbox to include the source code zips the current project files and downloads them to the controller together with the compiled code. The zipped source can be used as a backup of the current project in case future modifications are necessary. It can be uploaded into the software development environment at a later time for editing and also provides another way to store the program in case of any data loss from third party servers or computers. Note: While the controller does have 3.5MB of flash memory available, only 1.4MB of that is allocated to MotionWorksIEC project storage. This is because there are scenarios where two copies are stored on the controller (totaling 2.8MB, leaving 0.7MB free for other user files such as Configuration and Cam/Data files, which are not included as part of the "user project".
