Yaskawa America, Inc (YAI, Drives & Motion Division (hereinafter D&M), warrants at the time of shipment, new and unused product sold by D&M shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship. D&M warrants that for a period of one (1) year from the date the product is first used by Buyer, or 18 months from the date of shipment, whichever occurs first, if any product or part is found by D&M to be defective, D&M will, at its sole discretion and as Buyer's exclusive remedy, either repair, replace or return the purchase price paid to D&M; provided that the subject product is used under normal conditions for which it was designed and installed, operated and maintained in accordance with D&M's instructions and in accordance with generally accepted industrial practices. Products repaired or replaced during the warranty period shall be covered by the foregoing warranty for the remainder of the original warranty period or ninety (90) days from date of the repair or shipment of the replacement, whichever is longer. D&M warrants, for a period of ninety (90) days, that services shall be performed in a workmanlike manner. Buyer's sole remedy for a breach of this service warranty is limited to further service or a refund or credit of amounts paid by Buyer, at Seller's option. 2. What is the life expectancy of a Sigma-5 motor when operating above 40 degrees Celsius (104 F)? Posted Date: 10/18/2010 Answer: The Sigma-5 motor's class F insulation system is rated at 155 degrees Celsius (311 F) maximum internal operating temperature. Every 10 degree C increase of actual temperature above this maximum specification will decrease the life of the insulation system by 50%. The internal temperature of a motor producing rated torque, operating at or below an ambient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, and mounted to the recommended heat sink should not normally exceed this 155 degrees Celsius limit. Within the rated operating conditions, Yaskawa America Inc. recommends that the bearings be serviced every 20,000 hours. If the ambient temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, the usable life of the bearings and the motor can be decreased but there is no other information available on the bearing life degradation in elevated temperature conditions. The recommended service schedule can be found in the Safety Precaution pamphlet manual that is shipped with every motor ( Manual No. C230200 00B). What are some tips for operating a single load with multiple servo motors? Posted Date: 03/12/2014 Answer: With Yaskawa MP Controllers, position mode is quite effective as Mechatrolink is a high-speed deterministic network enabling all of the servopacks process information at the same time (synchronized). Declare (arbitrarily) one axis a master and the other(s) as a slave(s). 1. Configuration To lessen torque discrepancy (fighting) among the axes, it is often useful to set PN10C = 0 in the slave(s). This sets the ServoPack to operate the velocity loop in proportional (P) only mode. It will keep the speed loop integrator in the ServoPack from building up and adding torque disturbance. 2. Alignment Hold the master axis stationary. Limit the torque in the slave axis to something reasonable (that will not damage the mechanism). Slowly (referencing or homing speed) move the slave axis reverse, when torque limit is reached, record the slaves actual position. Move the slave axis forward, when torque limit is reached, record slaves actual position. Move the slave to the mid-point of those two positions, and then enable 1:1 gearing to the master. Typically this is completed as a referencing routine in the motion/machine controller, such as Yaskawa MP controller. 3. Gains When tuning it is important to change the gains on all shared axes at the same time. If using Model Following Control (MFC) tuning methodology, it is important that these ServoPack parameters are the same for all axes. Theses include PN140 - PN14F. Does the Sigma-5 have a function to reduce position dither when holding position? Posted Date: 07/01/2009 Answer: The Sigma-5 vibration suppression function can suppress vibrations as low as 1 to 100 Hz generated by sources such as the machine base vibrating. The anti-resonance control adjustment function (Fn204) can reduce excitation of frequencies from 100 - 1,000 Hz. Vibration suppression combined with high encoder resolution results in very low position dithering especially during standstill.
