Is it possible to transfer cam data from Mircosoft Excel to an MP controller? Posted Date: 10/26/2005 Answer: Yes. The following steps describe the process. 1) Save the file as .CSV 2) Open Yaskawa's 'Cam Tool' software, select 'Import' under the 'File' menu and open the CSV file. 3) Enter the 'Max Phase Value' (master cycle) and 'Max Position Value' (slave cycle) suitable for the data, and select OK for 'Set Style' and 'Set Parameter' windows. 4) Save file as .CDD. 5) Log online to the MP controller with MotionWorks Software. 6) Select 'File Transfer' under 'File' menu in 'Cam Tool' software. 7) Choose the CDD file for source, Double-Length for data type, and first register address, then select OK. Attached is an example documenting the transfer of a cam table created in Excel. When creating the cam table in Excel, the following rules should be taken into account: a. The master data must start at 0. b. There must not be repeated master entries. Ex: 1, 2, 3, 3, 4,etc. c. The master points must be in increasing sequence. Ex: 1, 2, 3, 2, 5,etc. d. Gaps in between data points are allowed. Ex: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8,etc. The CSV file will fail to import if these guidelines are not kept. Is it possible to set up ASCII text fields in an HMI Recipe to specify recipe name so it can be modified and stored in an MP9 Controller? Posted Date: 11/08/2001 Answer: Yes. Recipe names can be programmed in the HMI and stored/changed during runtime along with the rest of the recipe data (the recipe names are stored in register blocks inside the MP products). When the HMI product is connected to an MP9 series product, the "Yaskawa MP/CP" driver will be selected. This driver supports both Numeric (M or I registers) and ASCII (text) data formats. To create a text-based recipe name, first select Recipe Data for Data Field Source. Next, click on the Designer development screen to place the Recipe Data item on the panel (will look like "RRRRRR"). From the field definition screen, select "ASCII" from the Display Format dropdown. Next, set the Address Offset to a known unused register number. MW registers will be used here (or select from a TAG list). Next set the Field Width to the maximum number of characters for the text based recipe name. At this point, it is important to note that each character defined takes up a total of 8 bits, and MW registers in the MP9** controllers are 16 bits wide. Because of this, it will be necessary to use caution when specifying the Address Offset, and insure that there are enough registers unused to support the entire Field Width. For Example - Suppose Field Width is set to 10 (to support a recipe name of up to 10 characters long), and Address Offset is set to an arbitrary number of 10. This means that 10/2=5 MW registers will need to be reserved starting at MW00010 (MW00010, MW00011, MW00012, MW00013, MW00014). If the Controller or HMI use these registers for anything else, the data will be overwritten and the data will appear garbled on the screen. After this is done, it is now possible to set up the recipe name row from the "Recipe Configuration" Screen. Do this by highlighting the row, and clicking on the "Set As Recipe Name" button. The row will show a * next to the register or tag name. Next it will be necessary to add the "upload", "Download", and recipe control variable to the screen. After downloading and running, it will now be possible to cycle through the recipes and view the different recipe names loaded. If Read/Write was selected on the Recipe Data source, then it will be possible to modify the name. The attached file is an example Designer Application Project for an eTOP11 communicating to an MP940 (Etop11~2.zip). It shows a simple recipe configuration with text recipe names on page 3 and 4. Both are tied together in a Recipe Menu shown on page 5. To allow the user to edit the text recipe names during runtime, it will be necessary to prepare an ASCII or alpha numeric text entry screen. This limitation can be overcome by following one of the methods described below. 1) Use other remote control software, such as RealVNC. http://www.realvnc.com/ 2) Have someone local to the PC with MotionWorks IEC start the software. MotionWorks IEC cannot be launched via Remote Desktop, but it can be operated remotely once it is running. For MotionWorks IEC 2.x, the license is checked the first time a project is opened. Is it possible to route the POT and NOT signals through DeviceNet on an MP940D? Posted Date: 09/05/2001 Answer: Technically Yes, but care must be taken to insure safety. Positive Over Travel (POT) and Negative Over Travel (NOT) are considered critical I/O, and their function is controlled within the SGDH amplifier by default. This strict control insures that motion will stop given an OT situation. Caution should be used when trying to control such an event over a network, particularly if the network is disconnected (in this case, the controller must immediately stop motion if network heartbeat is lost). These inputs which are wired into the SGDH, are then mapped into the MP940 controller (every 125microsec) to be used for further decision making in the MotionWorks or MotionWorks+ program. All 7 isolated inputs into the SGDH 1CN connector can be read from IWC025 bits 0,1,2,3,4,5, and 6 (or "Sigma_*" inputs from MW+). To view any of these through DeviceNet, simply map the inputs to a DeviceNet output, then each DeviceNet scan will have updated info for other nodes (this is Polled I/O). Follow the steps below. 1) Remove the cable from the CN3 connector if present. 2) Apply control power to the Sigma II. 3) Press and release the MODE/SET button on the front of the amplifier. 4) Observe that "Fn000" is displayed. If it is not, repeatedly press the MODE/SET button until displayed. 5) Press the UP arrow key until the amplifier displays "Fn005." 6) Press and HOLD the DATA button until the display reads "PInIt." 7) Press and HOLD the MODE/SET button until "PInIt" flashes. 8) Release the button, notice that the amplifier flashes "donE." 9) The amplifier will again display "PInIt." The parameters are now restored to default, at this point it is important to cycle control power to insure all parameters take affect. Is it possible to register and use MotionWorks IEC through a remote desktop? Posted Date: 04/05/2012 Answer: It is possible to use MotionWorks IEC through remote desktop once it has been successfully registered and licensing has been verified. Limitation: MotionWorks IEC cannot be registered or run using the Windows communication accessory "Remote Desktop Connection". When logged into a computer via Remote Desktop, Windows treats the session as a "networked" user. Licensing restrictions prevent license verification for networked users. When attempting to register or start MotionWorks IEC via Remote Desktop, the "Program not authorized" message will be displayed: Remedy: If MotionWorks IEC is already running, it can be controlled using Remote Desktop Connection. Some users prefer Remote Desktop over other means to remotely control the Windows PC due to higher performance. One way to start MotionWorks IEC is to use an alternate remote control application, such as Real VNC from www.realvnc.com, to start MotionWorks IEC. Once it is started, disconnect from the alternate remote control application and then start Remote Desktop using the same user login credentials. Is it possible to prevent the momentum of a linear motion system from carrying the table (or carriage) past a limit switch? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: The Sigma II amplifier is very robust and protects the motor from harming itself. The Sigma II has overtravel functions built-in to the amplifier, but it is important to understand the settings to use the overtravel feature. The Sigma II offers three options which are set in Pn001.1: 1 & 2) Pn001.1=0, will stop the travel the same way a servo OFF or alarm stop mode (Pn001.0) is handled. This may be a coast or a Dynamic Brake. 3)Pn001.1=1, will stop the travel by using the Emergency Stop Torque (Pn406) to stop the motor. The Dynamic Brake and the Emergency Stop Torque are the fastest ways to stop the motor. The "dog" or pickup for the overtravel switches, especially on fast moving machines, should be sufficiently long enough so as not to over shoot the switch and end up in a dead zone. If an overtravel occurs (input goes low) the drive will automatically begin to stop the motor. If the momentum moves the table beyond the switch while stopping, the overtravel will be reset and the motor will try to continue to the move. This may cause damage to the system mechanics. An overtravel can be latched in the controller through programming. When programming a controller like the MP940, caution must be taken to set up the overtravel detection handling within the supervisory program. The program needs to prevent any movement in the direction of the overtravel, but must also allow the operator to jog back off the switch in the opposite direction. Is it possible to pause motion once started and resume to the same target later? Posted Date: 07/13/2004 Answer: Yes. The speed [SP] command can be set to zero, which will cause deceleration to zero speed. Technically, the controller considers the axis in motion, because it has been commanded to move and has not reached the final target. Later, when it is OK to resume, the speed [SP] command can be set to its previous value, and the axis will accelerate up to speed and complete the original move. Note: If you abort motion with either the AB input or AB1 command, it is not possible to resume motion. This is not considered a pause. You would need to store the original target position, and issuse a second move equal the absolute target-current commanded position. Attached are examples of an MP920 system communicating with a LEGEND-MC over ethernet, the same philosopy can be used with 3rd Party PLCs using Modbus over TCP/IP. The following is a description of the setup: HARDWARE SETUP: - The MP920 Rack system uses a 218 ethernet I/F module with an ethernet 10Base-T RJ45 Transceiver module (Model E-TBT-MC02 made by Transition networks). Essentially, the MP920 represents any third party PLC that can communicate Modbus over TCP/IP Ethernet. (Alternate Transceiver module available from Focus Networks (www.signamax.com) part number 065-2160, description 10BaseT RJ45 Ethernet Transceiver module for $33.00 - Call CSC in Chicago @ 800-446-2377.) - The 218If module also needs a +12VDC power supply, a wall mount supply is sufficient for testing. - The LEGEND-MC, MP920 System, and PC are all linked together via a DS108 Dual Speed 8-port hub made by Netgear. Category 5e ethernet patch cables by Belkin (Model: R7J304 4 pair 24 awg) were used for interconnection. - The system is physically connected and verified for connection at the HUB: Hub is connected to the building network via port#8 with the uplink engaged and receive LED blinking. PC connected @ port#1 shows 100M LED ON. LEGEND-MC connected at port#2 shows 10M LED ON. MP920 218 connected at port#3 shows 10M LED ON. For additional information on obtaining 3rd party hardware for this setup see this FAQ CONFIGURATION: - In this set-up, it is important to point out that the LEGEND-MC will be the master on the network, controlling data transfer to and from the MP920 or PLC over ethernet. The limitation in this configuration is 8 handles in each master LEGEND-MC and 8 handles in each MP920 (and a master typically requires two handles for a connection to a slave). - The PC is set up as IP address 192.168.1.21 - To set up the MP920, it will be necessary to first expand the MP920 program, "Cpu1.zip", into a temporary directory from Windows Explorer. Next, from MW, using the standard CP Ladder editor, create a new MP920 CPU. Lastly, from Windows Explorer copy the folders under the CPU1 temporary directory from above and paste them into the C:\YEToos\Cp717Usr\.... (make sure to select the proper order and controller folders). - The MP920 program attached is configured for station IP address 192.168.1.200 via software port (which is the standard port for Modbus), and utilizes a modbus function block in the low speed ladder L01. At this point, it should be possible to log into the MP920 controller via MW and find the L01 drawing with the function block as described (see attachment below). Note that this example shows its usage in the CP ladder editor. When online, do a full transfer from HD to CPU. Then, cycle power on the MP920 system. - To verify a connection, it is possible to use the "PING" utility from the MSDOS prompt (see below for example of a successful response to a PING command on the MP920 IP address). Note: if the MP920 is not responding, it may be necessary to cycle power on the system. - The SMC3010 is set up as IP address 192.168.1.29 and assigns the MP920 connection on handle E. This is defined in the attached setup program, "Tcpmtst1.smc". From YTERM, connect to the LEGEND-MC, download the program, and execute it with the XQ command. Pay special attention to the messages on the screen. TC1 will also indicate any problems. - To verify that the handle E connection has been made, an ethernet utility "Vcomm" is available from the YTerm installation CD. Launching this program will connect to the LEGEND-MC (use IP address 192.168.1.29 as indicated above). Verify the data is similar to that shown in the "Vcomm alpha" example window attached below. RUNNING THE PROGRAM: - The attached program, "Tcpmtst2.smc", is a test progam to write registers (6 registers starting from MW00000) over TCP Modbus from the LEGEND-MC to the MP920, and then read them back out again. After downloading and executing this program, verification of variables VAR10, 11, 12, 13, 14 should read the same as those set in VAR0,1,2,3,4. To monitor the data from the MP920, simply verify via the "Register List" in MW. Note that the first 4 are 16-bit words and should be monitored as MW registers and the last one is 32-bit long and should be monitored as an ML register. There is a keyword in the system called "TIME" which counts the number of milliseconds (servo cycles) since the power was turned on or the system was reset. TIME is in servo cycles, which by default is milliseconds. If the TM command is changed, TIME will change accordingly. If the TM parameter is reduced by half, the SCAN value will be twice as much. Is it possible to automatically start an HMI recipe download from an SMC-3010 controller? Posted Date: 06/26/2013 Answer: Yes, by using the interlock mailbox. In many cases upon a machine power on sequence, it is desireable to automatically load up a series of custom startup parameters (or recipe of values) from an HMI interface into the controller for use in operation. In this case, a LegendMC (SMC-3010). Below we describe what is necessary to configure an EXOR HMI to transfer a recipe of values to the controller, at the controller command, by utilizing an "interlock mailbox" feature. Step 1: Definition of the mailbox In the EXOR Designer software (reference Designer User Manual), enable the mailbox to "read in cycles" from Project/Interlock Mailbox.. menu dropdown. Click on the "Reference.." button to access the base controller variable where the mailbox data will be exchanged. Select "0" for 16-bit word format (WORD [bin]) see screen shots below). In this case, we will define the controller variable "V050" as the start of the mailbox. According to EXOR designer manual, each word in the mailbox is defined to be 16 bits wide, since SMC3010 defines integers as 32 bit words, care must be taken when setting up the mailbox structure (see table 8-1 of Designer manual). In this case, the first word of the mailbox (cmd/status word) will be the first 16 bits of "V050", the second word of the mailbox (function/response code) will be the second most significant 16 bits of "V050", the third word of the mailbox (parameter 0) will be the first 16 bits of "V051", and so on. Twenty 16-bit words should be reserved for the mailbox, so the controller should pre-define and set asside 10 variables, such as "V050" thru "V059" or UniOP[0] thru UniOP[9]. NOTE: it is very important to pre-define these words in the controller or this will not work, see the SMC code example attached. V050 low 16 bits = Cmd/Status Word V050 high 16 bits = Function/Response Code Word V051 low 16 bits = Parameter 0 V051 high 16 bits = Parameter 1 ...etc... Step 2: Commanding Recipe Download from Controller Refer to 8-6 of Designer Manual. In the case of recipe download, the Cmd/Status word and Function/Response code will share the same controller variable (in our example "V050") because it is 32 bits wide. Step 2A: First the mailbox parameters should be set. Parameter 0 should be set to the page number that the recipe is located (for example page 7) and Parameter 1 will be set to the recipe set number (for example recipe set 4). EXAMPLE: In V051, enter 262151 in decimal or 40007 in hex (4 shifted 16 bits to the left, plus 7. In binary: 100 0000 0000 0000 0111) Step 2B: Next, the initiate the command. The Function Code should be set to "2" to "Start Recipe Download" and the CMD word should be set to "1" to indicate that there is a pending request. The JUSP-RG08D is a self-contain unit consisting of DC bus sensing and alarm circuitry, switching IGBT, and a 50 ohm regen resistor. Is it possible to achieve more consistent I/O updates for high speed applications with the Mechatrolink Phoenix Bus Coupler and the MP2000 series products? Posted Date: 11/30/2010 Answer: There may be a delay in the in IO response when using the Phoenix bus coupler over the Mechatrolink. This could be caused by a large amount of IO being used and the time it takes for the Mechatrolink to update the IO status. As a result we recommend a phased approach to improve the IO responsiveness with the following steps: 1. I/O connected to the main body of the coupler will be faster than the additional slice I/O because of the additional time required by the backplane for processing of the remote I/O. Use main body I/O where possible for the most critical I/O. 2. Update the module's update rate to sync with the High speed scan program being used. If using an MP2000iec controller, be sure the I/O driver is set to update at an appropriate interval (synchronize with a task that corresponds to the desired I/O refresh rate.) 3. Move the critical I/O to an LIO card on the MP2000 series controller. 4. Move the critical output to the COIN connection on the LIO or CNTR-01 card. This is also referred to as the High Speed Output function on MP2000iec controllers. This is a hardware level function that can operate the output within 13 uSec of the encoder on the LIO card meeting an exact position value. After the trip-point clears, use the SB and CB commands to clear or set an output bit. This works very well when there are over six outputs that need to be fired in a very accurate amount of time. If there are 4 or less outputs, you can create a loop structure that uses the OB command like this OB [output],[logical condition] which will set and clear the outputs based on the logical condition being true or false. The SMC does not have built in PLS commands, but it is possible by programming with the above commands. It is also possible to use this PLS scheme on an external encoder and get the information over Ethernet to other controllers. The auxiliary encoder info goes over Ethernet, updated at the slave update cycle, which has a four mSec minimum. The limitation on the auxiliary encoder is that the MF and MR commands only work with main encoder axes, so you have to make a mini program loop that checks the position of the auxiliary encoder. The fastest way to a PLS on an auxiliary encoder is to fan it out to all controllers. Is it possible for an AC induction motor, driven by a Yaskawa V7 inverter to "follow" a Yaskawa Sigma II servo system using the Servopack's (SGDH) encoder output and the Inverter's "reference pulse" (RP) input? Posted Date: 04/11/2006 Answer: Yes it is. The V7 has a "reference pulse" (RP) input that accepts a pulse frequency as a speed command, and drives the AC induction motor at a proportional speed (reference frequency.) The speed at which the AC motor follows the servo system depends on digital settings in both products. An excel workbook is provided to test both Servopack and Inverter settings before they are actually applied in the two products. Servopack and Inverter Settings: Since the Servo system is commanding pulses to the inverter, the servomotor speed and the value set in the encoder dividing parameter of the Servopack (Pn201) directly effects AC induction motor speed. In order for the inverter to accept the pulse command from the Servopack, the RP input for the inverter must be active (n004 = 5). Inverter parameter n149 scales the "command frequency" to "reference frequency". The other limiting factors in the inverter are the minimum frequency the inverter commands and maximum frequency settings. The minimum frequency reference of this inverter is 1.5Hz. The maximum frequency is the set value in n011, and is commonly set at 60Hz. It must also be noted that only one of the two channels of the Servopack's encoder outputs are used to command the inverter. The dynamic speed range of the AC induction motor (1.5 ~ 60Hz) driven by the inverter is the limiting factor in this system. However, it is also true that the settings in both the Servopack and the Inverter affect the final speed of the AC induction motor. Due to this dependence of the settings in both products, along with the common requirement to obtain reasonable dynamic range of the AC induction motor, an Excel workbook ("Servopack Master V7 slave.xls") is made available. Using the workbook: The workbook has two spreadsheets. One includes the instructions, the other (Servo-Inverter tool) will predict the resultant reference frequency speed of the inverter driven AC induction motor. The user needs to provide the "Servo-Inverter tool" spreadsheet with the digital settings of both devices, and the speed of the servo system. This spreadsheet has yellow colored cells where the servo system speed and the parameter setting of each device are entered. The results, displayed in bold blue characters, include the frequency command of the Servopack's pulse output and the frequency reference generated by the inverter to the AC induction motor. In the MP940 controller, how are the FLASH and COPY switches used? Posted Date: 05/21/2001 Answer: When an MP940 program is executed, it runs from RAM memory, and variables (or registers) reside in RAM. Without a battery, this memory will naturally decay and lose information over time, so Yaskawa recommends that a battery is attached to the MP940 to maintain the data in RAM. An alternate method of preserving the program data and register data is to store it in the built-in flash memory of the amplifier. The entire contents of RAM can be saved to Flash using either MotionWorks or MotionWorks+. To retrieve the data from Flash, simply set the dip switches on the front of the MP940 unit. Operation note: Upon application of control power with ONLY the "RUN" switch on, the controller will use the program and registers that are currently resident in RAM. WIthout a battery, the RAM memory is subject to loss, and could result in an A.E0 or A.9F alarm. With the "Flash" switch on during power up, the program will be copied from Flash to RAM for runtime. With the "Copy" switch on, the variable (register) data will be copied from Flash to RAM for runtime. Flash: The "flash" switch copies the ladder programs from Flash to RAM on power-up. The data registers, however, are not copied. Copy: The "copy" switch copies the global variables ('M' registers) from Flash to RAM. The values of these switches are checked during power-up, therefore power must be cycled after turning the switches ON. If the MP940 does not have a battery, both switches should be left on all the time. If variables (registers) are changed on a constant basis (such as from an HMI), and need to be retained, then a battery will be necessary. In some pumping systems the motor speed is normally about 80% of rated motor speed. However, periodic purging of the pumping system requires the pump to go to full speed for a while, then return to normal. How is this done with the V7 Drive? Posted Date: 10/27/2005 Answer: The easiest way is to use the Jog Reference input, S7 to toggle between the normal speed reference and the 'Jog Frequency' (n032). Set parameter n032 to 100% frequency. Now when the Jog Reference input is energized the drive will accelerate to 100% speed. When the Jog Reference is released, the drive will return to normal speed. Note: Earlier versions of the V7 Drive were named GPD 315/V7, GPD 315 or VS Mini V7. Position amplifier error is the difference between the position reference value and the actual position after electronic gear conversion. Motor-load position error is the difference between the feedback position of the motor encoder and the feedback load position of the external encoder for fully-closed loop control. In order to identify the parameter causing the OPE alarm, one goes to monitor U1-18. On the Z1000 Bypass cabinet, the parameter states "Z0-00". What does this mean? Posted Date: 10/21/2013 Answer: The Z1000 bypass is not able to show all parameters when communicating through the bypass control board, and Z0-00 is displayed when the information given by the bypass control board is incomplete. Please connect the digital operator to the drive and go to U1-18. The parameter will be shown only when connected to the drive. For additional information, please refer to the manual SIEPYAIZ1B01.
